I have a month! - tell me what to do

I wouldn't go round the world as I think you'd lose quite a lot of time in airports/on flights, plus to me it wouldn't give you enough time in any one place.
It really depends on budget doesn't it?
Personally, I'd do America, but then I've always wanted to do NY at Christmas, as cheesy as it may be. I'd only stay there a few days and would explore New England for the rest of the time.
Asia would be nice as well - I lived in HK for many years, and would def recommend it at that time of year and HK is a great starting point for other parts of Asia - you could very easily do city plus relaxing.
The point about religious observance is a good one with regard to Latin America, otherwise I think that would be a fantastic idea. I'd love to go there!
Hmm... I'm not being very helpful am I? I think my preferences would be (assuming quite a large budget), in order;
America
Asia
Western Europe
Flights downunder are pretty expensive at that time, but if you do decide to go for that option, check out Singapore Airline's sale - it ends on 30th June IIRC so you'd need to be quick but it covers that period.0 -
Me and BF are doing exactly the same at Christmas, we have a flight to Bangkok and are planning to to spend a month in northern Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam although we keep changing our minds as there are so many possible routes!!
You could do a good chunk of Peru and Bolivia in that time (i had 3 weeks there and saw loads) Christmas at Macchu Pichu would be pretty awesome!we have love enough to light the streets.0 -
I'd go for New Zealand as well - I went to Auckland for the last week of August and first two weeks of September in 2006 and absolutely adored it. I would have loved to see more of the country and a month is definitely long enough to do it. It's not massively expensive once you're there (although at that time of year the flights would cost you - you're probably looking at about £1,000 each for return flights before the various internal ones, although there is an Auckland to Wellington train but that takes about twelve hours) and there is loads to do even if you just stay around the big cities, although obviously there are lots of nice places further afield to go visit as well. Rotorua and Taupo are definitely worth a visit, as is Queenstown."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

Are you any nearer to making a decision about where to go tho??YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
really....it's not hard to understand :T0 -
You could fly to Singapore then catch the bus into Johor Bahru in Malaysia. Fly from there to Kuching in Borneo. See the orang utan and visit the longhouses where the Dyak and Iban tribes live. Explore the jungle. It is a great place and cheap. Hotels are plentiful and modern in Kuching. Internal flights are cheap and everyone speaks English. You will have a great time. PM me for more suggestions0

Oh, I just remembered that when I was going to NZ Qantas did a ticket where you could fly through New Zealand, Australia and bits of Southeast Asia (Thailand, Bali) etc, as long as you didn't go backwards and stopped and started at the same airport. So it would be OK to go Auckland - Wellington - Christchurch - Sydney - Perth - Thailand - Bali - Auckland, but you couldn't, say, go back to Wellington from Christchurch.
That might be worth investigating, but of course it was a few years ago..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
Just got back from 3wks in Thailand (The North, Gulf Coast and of course Central) and it is more than easy to spend a month out there travelling about with a few days in Penang thrown in for good measure.
Minerva_Windsong's suggestion sounds brill and most definitely worth looking into. In fact it is giving me ideas too!
I am up for doing Japan come easter but the cost of this would prohibit most spending more than 2wks out there, I would imagine. It is however a top destination of choice and I am not surprised you are considering it.
Our extended holiday next year is to South America and you would still have time to plan something along these lines, especially if you dash off to tripadvisor like pronto!
It is great to have that much time to play with and you are both going to have a fab experience wherever you choose to go.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
I have also travelled extensively in Indonesia. A lovely country with friendly people and some amazing sites. Start in Jakarta then to Bandung , Jogjakarta, Malang, Gunung Bromo and on to Bali but do not stay at Kuta. Head north to Lovina. I could go on and on. If this appeals to you pm me for a more detailed description.0
