Thanks for all your help guys!
Will give VMware server a try over the weekend. If that fails, Cygwin with the gcc, if that fails, bootable linux and if that fails then a windows compiler!
Thanks again for all your advice![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Linux is not based on UNIX at the kernel level, the data structures are actually quite different. The UNIX command set is just a list of program names and a general description of what they do. You can make any OS understand UNIX commands quite easily, and most do anyway. Command output is generally cosmetically similar but beyond that they will be different in their workings. Yes, you can use different compilers until the cows come home. Most compilers can be told to be extremely strict, and some are strict (and usually simple) by default.MercilessKiller wrote:Yes Its bog standard ANSI C that we've been using... so that's where I'm struggling. Does LINUX OS C compilers compile in ANSI C? If not is there a windows ANSI C compiler?
Try cc, gcc et al.
Forgive me for saying, but I think spending a few minutes in Google would probably have revealed the answers to all your compiler compatability questions.0 -
I did google but I just ended up confusing myself and going round in circles..
So i thought why not post on a helpful forum... and indeed people have been helpful.. though i'm not sure why you've decided to be insulting as well as helpful :P[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

BTW, I installed Ubuntu Linux on my wife's new Dell 630m using VMWare couple of week ago with no problem. Just set aside 4-6GB for it and you don't need to repartition your HD too. She needs it for uni's works too.0
