Have given up trying to find a car hire from Utica area to Boston and now thinking of using Greyhound instead. 6 hour journey - is this feasible/bearable on a greyhound please?

Have you checked Amtrak. Greyhound are notorious for being ridiculously expensive for longer trips.0

Amtrak as in trains? Yes, from Utica the only train is gone 1 p.m. which arrives nearly 10 p.m. at night. Seems a terrible waste of one of the few days we have for Boston sightseeing. Actually the Greyhound is about $54 for 2 if we book 3 weeks in advance, which is about the same/less than the train.
First Greyhound leaves 7.15 a.m which means we could have from about 1.30 pm in Boston.
Car hire is over £100 for just the journey because of the different drop off to pick up and then we keep being told to avoid Boston traffic like the plague.0 -
Hmmmm amtrak can BE expensiveeee but check out both and see who has the better fare

I've done Greyhound between Boston and New York several times which is about a 3-4 hour trip depending on traffic. You can get fares as low as $15 each way as it is such a competitive route (there are loads of Chinese-run bus companies which ply the NY-BOS route). City centre to city centre its quicker, cheaper and easier than flying - and also compares well with getting the train.
You do get some interesting characters on buses in the US, but that's all part of the experience of travelling...0 -
Yes I did but that was in South Africa. The toilet was broken and the driver refused to stop for breaks of timelines he had been given. After that trip I had a bladder infection! Except for the loo being out of order it's not too bad.

Sadly, nearest would be Syracuse about 2 hours journey from where we are staying
(in the wilds). Oh just looked at their schedule. No, they dont do the right route. Even from Syracuse wed have to go to NYC and then out again. Thanks for the thought though
