There seems to be an unpleasantly short time period before those tokens expire and reloading, at least for me with Firefox using the refresh button, is not sufficient to clear the problem. Takes copying and pasting the URL into a new window to succeed.
Unpleasantly short here means cases where writing a reply may take more than an hour due to the analysis involved or where I may load a topic and then refresh just before writing and replying. That refresh should have loaded a new token but seems not to.
Just for clarification, I have the spam and multi-quote buttons in the cases today where I've encountered this. Two reply tries today, two failures to be able to post today.
The browser itself has been open continuously for two or three days, recycling windows in different frames or the same frames as I work through things I want to read and/or reply to.

I don't see a spam button either
what seems to be happening is he leaves the window open for a long time because he is thinking about what to write and when he submits his session has expired
I don't think length of time open affects it0 -
I haven't experienced this "token" error on MSE, but I do get it on a similar forum (despite having ticked that "remember me" box). I just took it as a quirk of that particular site, but perhaps it's more common and I'm just lucky - aka too talkative! - on MSE.
BTW, it seems that only certain people can currently see the Spam button, I think it's being trialled and not on full roll-out.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

dmg24 et al, it's an error message that showed up when trying to post a message. It's probably part of an anti-spam system.0
