The wrist strap is for ESD protection, "ElectroStatic Discharge" can cause early life failure in electronic parts, particularly anything that's CMOS based.
As you don't have one, another option is to ground yourself my touching any metal appliance or a good one is radiators as these are bonded to earth. You can't move around too much after doing this though, else you'll just charge up again.
Not as effectively as proper ESD precautions but normally "ok" for a nonproffesional domestic situation.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thanks Donnie I knew I could rely on you, I've ordered the Transcend one on ebay cheers, just hope I can follow the You tube tutorial now to put it in :beer:Either of the first two..Transcend or Hynix(at under £23) should be fine. Specify in your comments that you only want a low density RAM module.
