advice on auction needed, please

name and description of auction

sofa patern,..... 2 and 3 seater

in describtion says could sell them separately if required. listed under suite category. won the auction and seller says the 3 seeter is sold earlier that day.
Should i ask for a discount or what can i do? i really need a sofa and hubby wanted to use the one for his office. price was not high around 30 gbp but feel cheated.

  • Don't pay full price for them. The auction was for 2, if the seller no longer has 2, ask for a discount. If they won't give one, start a dispute, for item not as sold.

    How cheeky, though!

Personally I wouldn't be happy dealing with the seller, they obviously haven't got a clue.

However, asusming you are picking up and paying cash tell them you expect to pay no more than 2/5ths of the total , and then make sure you check it over thoroughly before handing over any cash.

I wouldn't complete the sale unless you get a really good discount, failing that, you could always try your local freecycle

the sofa seems in excellent condition as i have a small child and a broken sofa i really need this one. I am worried if i ask for a discount as advised seller might pull out. Seller wants cash in hand but this way i will not be protected and won't be able to dispute i guess. And also he can refuse to give it to me if i don't pay the full bid price.

I can't understand how you would even contemplate paying the full amount. The auction was for two items, you are getting one, what is there for seller to disagree with? Tell them if they want the full money then you expect both sofas, end of.

If you are happy to pay the full price for just the 2 seater, then go ahead.

Perhaps the seller will then re-list the 3 seater next week so you (or someone else) can pay again. How do you know they've actually sold the 3 seater? Maybe they are just having you on?

The seller cannot demand cash on collection (although I understand why they would be worried with any other type of payment). Ebay rules state you as a buyer can use any of the accepted payments stated in the listing, of which paypal is mandatory.

If you are happy to accept just the 2 seater, why not negotiate a lower price? Any MSE would! You are only getting 2/5 of what you thought you were buying. But don't that that alone influence the discount you expect. You were buying a set/matching pair, now you'll only get one settee. That's got to be worth even less than the 2/5 hasn't it?

Or you could do us all a favour and raise a claim against the seller as a non-performing seller. (I think you need to pay first, but if you do so by paypal, you'll get your money back). That'll give them a strike and hopefully will suspebd them from ebay.

Thank you all for your advice - much appreciated. it is the first time something like this happening to me. This is why i am so confused. I have spoken with ebay just to have it on record what my actions will be. I am going to contact seller and ask for discount and if he doesn't agree i will pay via paypal and file dispute.

Seller doesn't agree as it was my fault in believing i was bidding on two sofas. I told him i will pay full price if he gives me the two sofas or maximum of 18 pounds. He still hasn't answered and i'm worried if he tries to cancell the auction and report me. Is this possible?
just checked my account and he's filed for cancellation. What should i do? Any ideas? Thank you so much, helpfull people!

He can't cancel if you have won auction.
