Mobile Broadband Help for a Novice

Hi

Can anyone advise

i am just about to move to a property that does not have cable access.

I have a pc and a laptop and am considering the possible use of a pay as you go dongle

I only use the computer for checking emails, web browsing and the occasional game of poker

No downloading at all

What would be my best option to go for as i do not wish to waste £11 a month on a phone line that will not be used

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

    Hi

I used NTL broadband for years as they did not require me to have landline. I believe that in the past couple of years Virgin have changed taht policy, but it's worth phoning them if you are in a cabled street (I note the person to whom I am replying has said they are not)

Think about your expected data usage. In general if you are going to use more than a very small ammount of data you will probably be better off with a pay monthly package for mobile broadband.

I've been with 3 for the past few years for my mobile, as their credit score requirements were most lenient.

Reciently they were offering a 1GB monthly contract for £5 for existing customers, similarly if you have a modern smartphone with a good built-in HSPDA modem you can get 1 GB of "Unlimited" data transfere for £5/month. - but this has very poor reception on my N958GB - hence why I moved it to a seperate contract on a seperate dongle.

I really dont think you can beat their prices - £5 for 1GB limit or £15 for 15GB limit - with a possible 25% off that (£15) price if you have a mobile on contract with them.

They also have the best HSPDA coverage in the country (though reports say that o2 are catching up)

I would not reccomend 3 for PAYG. their credit only lasts 30 days - so no good for a very light user.

while being on 3 i would vote for vodaphone . The reason being is the top up has no expiry.
that what i wish i'd gone for expect 3 where first i saw

They have not changed their policy ,they still offer Broadband Only.
