Are you saying there was an unauthorised transaction on your account resulting in your account paying someone else? (and then paypal stopping it)

If so, yes the original transaction paying the recipient would result in you either having to have a balance in paypal or for that amount to be funded from somewhere; in this case it appears to be your bank account.

Hence why it's missing from your bank account. At least paypal spotted the unauthorised transaction and have already acted to return the money to you. :)

I would say that is very naughty of them, There is not need to take the money from your bank account, Unless you spent the money in the paypal account that is under investigation.

Someone puts money into your paypal account then surely they just return that transfer or cancel it, NOT take money from your bank..

Sounds fishy, But it does seem Paypal can make their own rules & laws.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me... Payment to a Yahoo address only mine is £770 *sob* the email from paypal just suspends your account as they believe it's a dodgy transaction, it doesn't put the money back in you need to raise a dispute with them. Also contact your bank and they will bar any more paypal transactions. For me it was the worst return from a holiday I could have had :-(

Do you have access to your paypal account at present?

If so, check to see if the money has been returned to your paypal account. It may be as littlestar1981 says and that paypal have only stopped the transaction and are waiting you to contact them/file a claim.

If the money is already back in your paypal account, I don't know if it will automatically go back to your bank - you may need to request this.
Expect it to take 5-7 business days for funds to reach your bank account from the date they are sent.

They did this with me for £500, they noticed it was fraudulent and said they'd stopped the transaction but actually took the money and refused to refund immediately as they said they had to check with the other party!!!!! They automatically refunded after 7 days when they had no reply from the fraudster. The bank were useless and said they couldn't do anything, despite them authorising a payment that took me overdrawn by £500, without me having an overdraft facility.
