Butlins - choosing a park?

we're thinking about trying Butlins for the first time in the summer hols (done Haven and Pontins before) but finding it hard to choose between the parks

our kids will be aged 12, 11, 8, 5, 3 and 11m when we go - if that makes any difference to which park we should choose. we're travelling from the north west.

will we have probems taking the kids swimming with their ages and the adult:child ratio?

any other advice about making the most of butlins would be most appreciated - hoping to get a private caravan rather than book direct

thanks :D
Mum of 7 (aged 14y to 1y)
loving SW - 5st off and counting! :j

I can't comment on the caravans side of it, but the onsite facilities available do not really vary between sites, so I would choose the closest to you.

Having said that, I am heavily biased towards Skegness ... go to Skeg! ;)

You should not have a problem with swimming. The only time the lifeguards will intervene is if children are causing a danger or inconvenience, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Enjoy!

The OP asked about Butlins. This has not been a Butlins for nearly ten years.

avoid skegness at all costs ! we went there last year it was over priced and unless you love drinking theres very little to keep an intelligent person occupied for more than an hour .

It is aimed at children, not adults. There are organised activities throughout the day for children. The exception to this is the adult weekends, which are aimed at ... drinking.

I think your expectations were misguided.

Have been to Minehead and Bognor in the past and Minehead wins every time.

Lots to see in the surrounding area, and the beach is sandy.

Although quite a journey for you - Minehead is a must! Fantastic location and they really have spent the £'s on it over recent years making it a great choice.

Take a look at the following site - lots of independant caravan owners offering rental:

Lol my children can't wait to go back to Bognor because they have a stony beach, much more fun than our local sandy beach in Bournemouth apparently!

funny my daughter wasnt impressed either ! we chose butlins because of the supposed child friendly activities but if you are over 3 yrs old you are stuffed basically. even in the school hols its full of drunks late at night , maybe people were so p***ed off they needed to drink to pass the time !!
