I hope my bank offers me a Visa; I have a Maestro and not everywhere accepts them, eg the Hoxton Hotel sale, I can never take part in as you need a Mastercard or Visa and I have neither...

I always thought you would enter the Maestro number in the Mastercard box - after all its one and the same (except one uses the old JCCC system!)

But personally, I prefer Maestro - was gutted when I lost it!

So do I , in fact the day HSBC replace mine with a Visa, I will move most of my money from them in protest.

Yea, there are a few of us that all support HSBC and Maestro..... shame really but hey, ho - their loss cos i'm not entirely happy but to be honest all banks will follow shortly so makes sense to just sit tight cos I do like HSBC...... Just got their credit card and at 15 months 0% it is actually bloody good! :rotfl:

I got my new HSBC card the other day however its changed to visa which I was aware off however theyve change my CG limit too £100.00 from £250.00.

I havent questioned it as ive never really written cheques anyway.

However reading this article it explains why :-(

Most of not all banks will use the visa debit scheme over the next year or so.

The RBS Group is in the process of moving to visa debit from august/september 2009.

Which banks will be left issuing maestro cards?

Well, until they do, you can get one and just hope you don't lose it until it expires.

Why are they all moving over to Visa anyway? Won 't they have a virtual monopoly on cards in the UK?

It's always useful to have more than 1 card on a different scheme, just in case Visa's network has issues. In theory it shouldn't happen, but it happens.
