I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I'm here most of the time. Just wondered whether other parents have had to pay for their childrens GCSE exams? I've just received a bill for nearly £250 for these fees from DS1's school, I sort of remember my parents paying something for my exams when I took them. I just didn't imagine it would be this high!

I can't believe that. Is it a private school? Schools get budgets to pay for exam entry for children. I have never known the parent have to pay!!!
I'm in shock. The rate sounds about right for what the school would pay for sitting about 10 GCSEs.0 -
My parents never paid for me to take my exams (o'level and c.s.es). Never heard of it before.0

From what I remember of state school, you only pay for the GCSEs/Alevel exams if a) you fail to turn up, or b) you resit (after a first free resit in my schools case).0

Nope, you don't pay in state schools. Not in my area at least.de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0

I have heard that some schools may take a fee as a 'deposit' for your kids turning up, as they figure you're more likely to make them attend if you've already forked out the money, rather than trying to claim it back off you when they don't turn up, so this might be it? At my school we were all too scared of our teachers to even consider not attending!£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0

I've never heard of state schools charging for exams either.
I have a feeling that themacca's offspring are going to be in a bit of trouble... - better get to the bottom of it themacca!
Sorry, just teasing, I'm sure there's an innocent explanation...
Must have been a bit of a shock in the post though.Everything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.
