Caravan or Tent?

id go for a caravan but then i like a bit of "luxury" lol and couldnt think of anything worse than having to put up a tent in bad weather once we had reached our destination !
they dont have to be hugely expensive though yeah more expensive than a tent but if you plan to use it lots it may be worth the initial outlay ??
could get a cheap one then work your way up as and when money allows etc ?0 -
I am more inclined to head towards Cornwall/Devon or Poole and surrounding areas just because they are areas I am more familiar with, not wishing to offend anyone from other parts of the country which are no doubt beautiful and interesting. So yes, any recommendations for good sites would be very helpful as well, not only for me I suspect. I think that might be another thread - 'campsite recommendations'cheekymole wrote:brindles, whereabouts would you be planning on going, can we be of help there?

I have had two 12ft second hand caravans in the past and I sold each of them for more than I paid for them.
OK it means buying late in the year when people with limited parking want to get rid of them and spend plenty of time sorting out a good deal. When selling time comes, sell them in the spring/summer.
The real expense comes if you have to buy a bigger car to tow them. In my case I had a large family car anyway so it made no difference... and yes I did use it as a spare room lots of times.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I bought my caravan for £400 with a lot of things in it. All I had to buy were a few sheets and pillows.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

So much down to personal preference. i hate camping with a passion, but can tolerate all the negatives about it when in a caravan as it isn't a canvas roof.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

LOL so do I. I can't bear the thought of having to use the shower block to get washed in etc. I'd rather have my kitchen/bathroom etc all under my caravan roof.bylromarha wrote:So much down to personal preference. i hate camping with a passion, but can tolerate all the negatives about it when in a caravan as it isn't a canvas roof.
DH bought a tent last year and went to france with his dad and our little boy for a few days, but they were back a day early due to bad weather.0 -
If you
a. have the space to store it
b. a car to pull it
Then it's got to be a caravan - you can always sleep in the awning if you want to get closer to nature!!
Water on tap, comfy beds, a toilet for in the night, electricity so that you don't have to sit in the car playing board games or reading the paper, a fridge and cooker. When it rains, you are all cosy and dry (you don't need to dread putting on the wellies to go to the distant toilet block)
Plus your car is free of stuff when you're travelling as it's all in the caravan, and you can stop with all the other caravans at the motorway services and get the kettle on!!
No contest!!
I found this site helpful (as people review caravan and camping sites) http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/index.aspRhiannon of Woolamai

Caravan
Kids toys and all your gear is sitting ready to go anytime. If you have a tent you spend half a day trying to get all the stuff tofether and half the weekend putting it up and waiting for a dry spell to take it all down then half the week trying to get it dried out ............
A caravan is better for colder weather too as it can be heated at night. Kids lose body heat real quick when its cold even in a sleeping bag, and many of them end up out of the sleeping bag halfway through the night.0 -
definitely tent no hassle with ferries no extra cost nearly always a bit of space at the camp site. Weather no good home anyway, TENT!0
