No i dont see the point in cutting them up the cards are a symptom tackle the problem and you dont even think about it. Mine are in my little red safe with some emergency cash-all five of them-having said that if egg dont let me have a fee-free BT in September i'll be chopping the card up in a thousand pieces and sending it back to them-along with a middle finger gesture!0

i have 3 cc and just applied form another I cut up the one that doesn't have 0% on purchases cos last year I got in a muddle put a lot on it and it cost me £7.00 interest!!

Artistically cut up, pieced together, glued to paper and mounted for inspiration.0

I have never had an outstanding balance on mine, but they do cause me bother discounting this.
Pre MSE I did budget but was very lax on keeping to the budget, if I saw something I would just buy it and bung it on the c/c. I always paid it off but raided the savings every month to pay it. Consequently the savings pot was always empty. I realized what I was doing every month was paying off things I had bought last month, so it goes on.
Also, I have 2 c/cs - Sainsburys (got it for the nectar points) and M+S (again got it for the points) now I have finally realized, a) they only offer you the paltry amount of points so you will put all your purchases on them and build up debt in order to get the points, and b) the piffling amounts of vouchers and points we were getting made it not worth it.
I finally gave up on my credit cards when I went into the Natwest (my own branch) to pay my bill as normal and they refused to take it because it wasnt their credit card and I was paying in cash, (even though I bank with them) I had to pay the cash into my account and then write out a cheque. The consequences of this are, I'm not using the credit cards any more, I have finally got used to paying with cash and I like it! (I stick to my budget if I have to hand over real money) and Ive closed the Natwest account and transferred to Co-Op instead.0 -
