Have You Cut Your Credit Cards Up?

Was just wondering how many people have cut their credit cards up to stop themselves spending on them?
I've currently got 7 credit cards and all of them are in tact! I don't need to cut them up coz I have no urge to spend on them! I just keep them for correspondence for BT's and that sort of thing.
I do however carry a Mastercard and Visa with me in my wallet! This is for real emergencies though! eg. my glass eye falls out or something!
I would never ever spend on them. I'm not even tempted to use them!

Wow, 7 seems a lot, even for back-up!
I've got two - one I don't spend on anymore, that one is a back-up and the other one is Egg Money, I use it for everything in order to get the cashback. If they don't offer cashback anymore, I'd ditch it in favour of one that does.0 -

All my cards are in tact although i haven't seen them in a while as my mum is looking after them. I just don't see them as available money like i used to! I have three and only one of them has a balance on.Official DFW Nerd Club member no. 019

I have cut up some of my cards ... the store cards that I will never use again in a rain of cats!!! With such high interest rates I couldn't bring myself to use them again as a reformed person!
I have kept most of my CC's, as like you SS I use them for BT's and occassional purchase on the net where you need the signature strip numbers(but all within budget). As soon as I clear one or get the balance down low they offer me a BT deal so I keep them just for that at the moment. When I am debt free I'm going to keep just two, whichever ones have the best cashback deals.

We've cut all of ours up except for one which we have for DH when he has to go overseas. All the others are in pieces in an envelope and as they are paid off they are cancelled and when I receive a letter confirming that, the pieces are thrown away!Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0

All except 2.
One with a high balance and an almost equally high credit limit which is deep frozen in ice (literally!) while I pay it off as fast as humanly possible. I might need to thaw it out one day when I am credit worthy enough to move the balance around for cheaper deals.
The other has a low credit limit (and balance) for the the odd online purchase.0 -

Cut up all of my original CC's and now have a Cap One Card (had it since Jan) - I do use it, but more to juggle my finances - and pay it off in full each month!! It doesnt come as second nature to use plastic any more!! Yaay!!.

Starting a DMP next month so we closed accounts for all really old cards that have no balance, and the rest got cut up, so the only cards I have in my purse are one debit card, a boots advantage card and a tesco club card. The funny thing is it feels great, I thought it would be hard to live without them but it makes things much less stressful cause if I haven't got the cash then I can't buy it, then there's no worrying about not being able to pay for it when the bills come in.0
