I cut up all of mine in January and am so glad that I did!0

i have 3 credit card. one has £430 @ 6.9% which i am paying minimum payment off each month while i snowball my higher APR debts. cards 2 and 3 are at £0 although i do use them throughout the month to help with my budgeting, but they get paid in full now when the bills come in. i dont intend to cut them up or get rid until such times as my debt is paid off completely and i have money in savings to cover larger purchases or emergencies. i use them as a tool to help me.November NSD's - 70

I have 2 credit cards and have not cut them up, and haven't been tempted to spend on them at all since December. Feels great. Mind you if I was tempted then I don't remember my pin numbers, so a good thing really.

I did cut up the one I had, but when I changed it to a 0% one, I have kept that, but never use it, it is hidden away.Became debt free in 2007 after having £15k of debt. Have been a stranger to MSE and now want to get back into my old MSE habits and save, save, save0

I had my one and only credit card, with a balance of £800 on it, I hate credit cards, I've paid back £350 on it in 2 months, and just to make sure I couldn't spend on it, I set it on fire, then cut it up. No joke.
It feels so good, kowing that you can't spend it. However, the other day I really needed to pay a bill, I phoned up for my details, but all they could do was send out a new card. I agreed. Silly mistake, but same will happen again, set it on fire and cut up.Feb 06 *****Highest Debt*****

We still have the bits, so that we can transfer balances, we know we would be tempted if we kept them intact. Haven't spent on them since Dec05 Woo Hoo! :j
Very impressed that so many of you guys have yours in one peice. We have zero will power, when it comes to shiney things!!!!What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)

How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave :mad:0 -
Haven't cut mine up yet....but I don't spend on them now, I just keep balance transferring by overdraft to one of them! I am gradually paying the other one off.
Its ok to use debit cards but if you haven't enough in the account to meet the bills then you may need the credit cards for back up....at a good rate that is like 0% !! until things pick up and more money becomes available to meet the basics...
for example ...last month I had to pay two lots of car insurances (£600) and car tax for one but I didn't use the credit cards :T , then I had a bit of a shortfall end of month for the mortgage !! so I had to balance transfer a bit to clear the overdraft enough to meet the mortgage.

Total debts ???***
Well I think they are going down, only time, a divorce, selling up & moving on will tell !!
Forever optomistic.... Positive thinking.0 -
I haven't cut mine up and I'm not tempted to use them either. Strange! Ultimately as each card (3 of them) gets paid off, then I will close the account and cut them. I will be holding a 'closing ceremony' !
I do use one for food and petrol and pay the whole bill on time - I still have a budget and that, plus each purchase goes on a spreadsheet, so there's no shocks, I stay within budget and I get interest the longer my money stays in the bank (set my payment date towards end of month so I pay before payday).
I've changed my mindset completely and 2 things rule my money - (i) spend where it's budgeted and (ii) overpay my debts. I'm lucky I'm managing to save some too which is for the annual stuff and emergencies - that's where the plastic got used before. Now in month 5 of not using it this way.
