Things to do with kids in Manchester

Hi guys i am looking for suggestions for things to do next weekend (Sat & Sun) in Manchester with my kids (aged 11 & 8) we are staying in Salford Quays and have planned to visit the Lowry and possibly the Imperial War Museum - any other child friendly suggestions welcome and places to eat, money saving ways to travel - thanks in advance:D

The Science Museum has interested my 2 and there were lots of hands-on things for them to do. The Air & Space Museum is either across the road or along the road.
If the children are interested, at Salford Uni there is a model of a Victorian Street called Lark Hill Place which is on the site of the library. It used to be free to go there & park but I've not been for years - hopefully someone else can let you know on that one.0 -

The science museum is good, the Lowry outlet mall for shopping and food court.(opposite where you will be staying). Lots to do in central manchester, theatres, good resturants etc.0
