that would be around march 05...
  • that would be around march 05...

no that would be the year 2002....in fact the commercial rate in march 2005 is exactly the same as the commercial rate in april 2006...to the cent!!!
  • I recently made the mistake of buying US dollars to Gatwick airport (get it at the airport said my husband !!!!) in the Travelex counter. The rate i got was a measly 1.62. When i mumbled something to the bloke behind the counter about the bad rate he said that if I had ordered online at https://www.travelex.co.uk and then picked it up at that same counter at the airport i would have got a rate of about 1.72.

A big lesson for next time. Don't make my mistake. Order beforehand and pick it up at the better rate.

Euro's 1.39 to the pound at the moment on the travelex website which does not seem that good, think I got my Euro's at 1.42 in October 2005.

I am going away for 2 weeks at the end of June and planning on getting £1,000 changed over for my spends so as soon as I get a good deal I will probably purchase

Go & hang out near any foreign exchange bureau like M&S etc etc, somebody there will want to change euro's back to sterling, you can offer them a much better rate and benefit yourself too. You may get a few funny looks. I always ask people at work & family for their euro's & dollars when they return from hols, I keep some & sometimes sell back to others if they need them.

i usually get about 30 Euros from https://www.travelex.co.uk and pick it up at the airport, this tides me over for any unexpected incident.
i then use my nationwide bank flex account debit card to withdraw cash from local cash machines abroad. Nationwide debit card does not charge withdrawel fees and ALWAYS gives me 5 - 10 percent better exchange rate than any foreign currency dealers. Can be worth opening a Nationwide Flex Account for free and loading it with cash to use on just your holiday.

I always do this too. Even down to the 30 Euros from Airport for emergencies. Nationwide rock!

Tesco now do clubcrd points on currency exchanges so if you were to change £1000 it would add £10 to your points balance, could be wort considering.
