Don`t hold your breathe, the rate at the moment is absolute crap.
Hopefully it may rise after Thursday`s BoE rate meeting.
I always use https://www.travelex.co.uk and pick it up at the airport.

Hi, we always withdraw the money out of the hole in the wall in the country that we are in. We have always got a great exchange rate and just withdraw enough for a couple of days at a time so no need to worry about having loads of money at your apartment/hotel.

i did think about that but i don't think i'm confident enough of 1. finding a cash machine and 2. using it properly!

  • i usually get about 30 Euros from https://www.travelex.co.uk and pick it up at the airport, this tides me over for any unexpected incident.
i then use my nationwide bank flex account debit card to withdraw cash from local cash machines abroad. Nationwide debit card does not charge withdrawel fees and ALWAYS gives me 5 - 10 percent better exchange rate than any foreign currency dealers. Can be worth opening a Nationwide Flex Account for free and loading it with cash to use on just your holiday.

be careful though, if your using switch (Maestro) a lot of banks will charge you a handling fee, usually around 2%? (please correct me if im wrong) so taking that into consideration it may not turn out to be such a good deal.
