I Know that I am going to get a lot of flack for this but any basic DIY'er can do plumbing. The info is all out there, save yourself £000's - Do it yourself.
There are plenty of books and it's basically common sense. As long as you can turn off the water supply you won't flood the place, it's only water. You swim in the stuff, wash in it, some people even drink it I'm told.
So many of these jobs are made to sound difficult by people with vested interests. If you don't try you won't do.
I've fitted several central heating systems in the past (again I say - not touched the gas side). Fitted showers, sinks, gutters, filled the cat bowl, etc etc etc.
For heavens sake in these difficult economic times go for it, it's a piece of
easy work if you read and practice a few joints first.
Right lets have the flack!!!!
PS. When I say joints I mean water joints not.............
Hi...anyone can DIY a rocket...it's hardly plumbing:D
But seriously...if someone is competent, has the time and can meet Water and Building Regulations then plumb away.

I guess that you support my post then and agree that with the right background research and a bit of practice it's not (usually) that difficult. How nice and refreshing is is to encounter that attitude from someone I guess is a professional, cheers to you mate.
We've also just completed our house sale today doing our own conveyancing.
The most difficult bit was filling in our names. 'Other side's' conveyancer tried to be difficult but ended up looking a total prat. She was not a Solicitor just a
conveyancer but kept telling us we were not register with the law society - SO !0 -

Hi....my OH is the professional ( 5 year plumbing & gas apprenticeship, 30+ years in the trade, self-employed for over 20 and oodles of free advice on MSE )....I just know how to find answers;)
I don't believe that plumbing or any other trade is just 'common sense' ( in itself 'common sense' can be a roadblock to abstract and logical thought). You're not paying trades for just what they do, the money is also for what they know ...and that can't always be found on internet site or book when time is of the essence.
