Need a plumber

Options
I have some work that needs to be done

Wet room for a shower and a new bathroom. Have asked about 4 plumbers to come round and quote. None have got back with any quotes.

Any ideas where I can find a good plumber.
Or if anyone lives in the Sudbury area can anyone recommend one?
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.

  • Hi mate you are probably looking around £2000 upwards on labour easily , dont go for a cheap quote on a wetroom it will cost you dearly in the long run , there are special membranes needed correct adhesives and special materails for this type of work . When thinking of the charges think about how much profit you will make on the property with a new suite and wet room . Listen to the plumbers advice carefully ...you would'nt belive how many people dont listen to my advice just because they want it a certain way doesnt mean it can be done.

Good evening: Yes... the CIPHE (and CORGI has been replaced by Gas Safe Register).

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)

Yes, the cheapest is not the best, but the best can sometimes be the cheapest.

Any wetroom supplied and fitted for less than 5k will have corners cut

Durabase WP (or equv) must be used as well as a preformed tray

Wedi are very good but a average size tray and trap retail at over £400

Tanking membrane is the preffered choice to those who install on a regaular basis, This is better than the gum and rubberised kits as it allows for more flexibilty and movement

Ensure your installer has experience and this is what will keep the water in!!, dont be afraid to ask for references from previous wetroom clients

Not talking about Gas obviously because of legal constraints but plumbing isn't rocket science, compare the number of rocket scientists with plumbers.
I Know that I am going to get a lot of flack for this but any basic DIY'er can do plumbing. The info is all out there, save yourself £000's - Do it yourself.
There are plenty of books and it's basically common sense. As long as you can turn off the water supply you won't flood the place, it's only water. You swim in the stuff, wash in it, some people even drink it I'm told.
So many of these jobs are made to sound difficult by people with vested interests. If you don't try you won't do.
I've fitted several central heating systems in the past (again I say - not touched the gas side). Fitted showers, sinks, gutters, filled the cat bowl, etc etc etc.
For heavens sake in these difficult economic times go for it, it's a piece of
easy work if you read up and then practice a few joints first.
    Right lets have the flack!!!!

PS. When I say joints I mean water joints not.............
