after making this post i found out about EHIC Plus, then posted another one forgetting i did this one. just goes to shoe my state of mind. the other thread is EHIC Plus? if anyone interested. short version is that the plus bit seems to cover alot of things that were brought up in your replies, still not sure if to take it £49.95 is tempting

Ehic won't cover you for accidents,I believe

Nonsense. The EHIC card will entitle you to the same State funded treatment as a resident of the country that you're currently in. In Poland for instance, this will cover you for NFZ treatment.

The problem lies in that many things which are NHS funded aren't funded abroad - in some countries, this can mean emergency care only, in other countries, you may have to pay for bandages, it varies quite dramatically. You can be assured of emergency care - but beyond that, it's a lottery.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.
  • If you're only travelling to western Europe, I wouldn't worry about it. Take your EHIC and make sure that your belongings are covered on your house insurance.

Not a good idea if you have existing medical complications.
