i am trying to get annual travel insurance for my son and myself for worldwide. problem is i have a pre-existing illness, i had back surgery in 2004 and now still take morphine. i have rang the top companies recommended on here that specalise in this and i keep being tripped up on the following facts that;
1. i have seen specalist within last 5 years (i see specalist every 6 months for review)
2. i take morphine daily for my pain
3. i weigh more than 15 stone
4. i made an insurance claim 2 years ago for lost luggage (did not get any money as they said i had to have had bag on person for it to count and as the theft happened at some point between handing bag over and it turning up at hotel 3 days later it was not on my person PLUS i am due to have gastric bypass some point in the year but WOULD NOT cancel any holiday due to the date would just work around it, but no section for that statement!!
what am i to do? have already just did one short trip without having the extra cover and worried family members have nagged me into not doing it again????

I have a number of pre-existing conditions and was struggling to find cover last year. I think the main issue was that I was recently out of hospital and also due a further exploratory procedure. I persevered however and eventually obtained several quotes for a single trip (worldwide) which varied in price by up to £800.
I know with the conditions that I have, that seeing specialists regularly for reviews does not seem to be a huge problem, nor does taking a variety of strong medication. I should imagine that the fact you are due to have an operation would be a stumbling block for some insurers (or their medical screening agencies).
Where are you wanting to travel to? May I suggest that, if possible, you opt for worldwide cover excluding the US & Caribbean, or alternatively, try and find a cover for each trip that you take rather than trying to find an annual policy. I am currently looking around for insurance and have found that I was declined for an annual policy (or rather - my health conditions would be excluded) yet they were quite happy to offer me worldwide single trip cover.
Good luck with your search!0 -

They have said the fact you have made a claim for lost luggage is a problem?0

If you're only travelling to western Europe, I wouldn't worry about it. Take your EHIC and make sure that your belongings are covered on your house insurance.0

That won't cover repatriation if necessary.......
The OP asked for worldwide insurance.0 -
An EHIC card won't cover cancellation and does not cover all medical bills0

Ehic won't cover you for accidents,I believe.0
