Mine have powdery mildew but still produce lovely courgettes so I'm leaving them be.
Got another 2 waiting in the wings in case any of mine run out of steam0 -
Hi,
I just wanted to share I have eaten my first courgette tonight and it was yummy. They definitely taste better growing them yourself. My first year of growing veg. I made sure I watered them everyday and fed them with vegetable feed once a week. My courgettes are in grow bags and I grew them from seed. Like others said you just have to be patient. I have a few others to pick soon. Good luck in veg growing.0 -
Don't throw away the flowers the're eidible :eek::eek:
Give them a quick inspection for bugs, wipe them very gently with kitchen paper dip in beaten egg and fry. Or slip a small slice of ham and mozzarella inside, then dip in egg and fry.
Yummy Yummy Yummy:jLou :beer:0 -
We have just started eating our yummy courgettes too. There are many with flowers and some with no growth -males? I'm sure yours will start soon. I have a question regarding the leaves - do you need to cut some back to enable the sun to get to the fruit or simply to enable you to get to them.0

You can cut back some leaves if you like. Not too many though because the plant needs them to live a long and healthy life. I normally take off damaged or diseased leaves only.
The courgettes don't need the sun to ripen as such, so you shouldn't have to remove any leaves for that reason.0 -
I've been reading all the threads on courgettes, worrying about my two plants as they're now huge, but the only thing that happened for ages was that courgettes went yellow and fell off...
Decided to remove the flowers from the fruit if they came off easily and made sure to water the ground rather than the plant and...
Last night I picked my first courgette!! A bit smaller that the ones in the supermarket but I was (still am) very excited!!0 -

I had the same with my first few... seemed to grow well then started to shrivel up... seems to be that they are not getting fully pollinated, so now I've been going round with a little paint brush and helping them on a bit and have picked 5 off the same plant in 3 days.. still more coming :jTrying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0 -
The female flowers are slightly bulbous behind the flower head. If you get a male flower, peel back the leaves and stick the pointy bit inside the female flower and wiggle it to get the pollen off you can artificial inseminate your courgettes. I was advised to do this, it worked a treat (but felt slightly wrong!!) and i'm now expecting triplets!!!xxx0

I'm off to do the 'wiggly thing' to my courgette plants right now!!!!!!!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
