Who says they should last 10-15 years?! Who made that figure up? That's not a fact, that's a finger in the air.
If that was true no-one . NO-ONE would EVER have to buy a fridge freezer EVER again, they would get replaced INDEFINITELY.

Good god you're hard work.

Ok firstly, the sale of goods act covers some goods for up to 6 years. (five years in Scotland)

Secondly, I read online about them lasting 10-15 years and I didn't say it was a fact, just what I had read.

Thirdly, I said it was a fact that fridge/freezers should last more than 13 months and anybody with half a brain would agree with that.

Now, read all that again so it sinks it because you seem to be having trouble grasping this.

Also perhaps you should go and read about the sale of goods act so you get a better understanding of it. You can find that here.

you said "Fridge/freezers should last more than 13 months and that is a fact."

I see the word FACT in your sentence.

Should last 13 months...yes maybe, doesn't mean they will. Also doesn't mean you should EXPECT to be reimbursed, just out of luck.
I understand the rules very well, you seem to be throwing the word "FACT" around a lot, and it just isn't the case.

You clearly don't understand the rules at all - what I am talking about is the LAW, not my opinion, not my take on things but the LAW.

The OP isn't out of luck at all and yes they should expect to get reimbursed and I am 99% sure they will.

It is a fact that fridge/freezers should last more than 13 months and it's absurd to think otherwise.

Anyway you clearly don't have a clue despite me explaning it and now you're just arguing for the sake of it.

OP - sorry for hijacking your thread. Hope you get it sorted :)

  • Thank you everyone, especially Hayley11, I sent off another email to LEC but I havn't heard anything from them yet, I shall send off another email to Argos telling them about the sale of goods act and making it look official and scare the hell out of them if I can!:j I did that two years ago when Halifax hit me with a £39 penalty for my cheque, I printed out a template from this site and sent it off to them, it took me six weeks but I got my money back.:T

I just thanked you by accident: Hayley11 is absolutely correct.

The sale of goods act says up to six years as what period is 'reasonable' depends upon the product. Obviously it's not reasonable to expect a £5 hair tong used daily to last six years, but it might be for an television that cost hundreds or thousands of pounds. Fridge-freezers are expensive and it's a nightmare when they break down. For that reason they are expected by the majority of people to last longer than 12 months so you have a strong argument for invoking the SOGA.

The warranty is over-ridden by the SOGA not the other way around. You obviously don't know anything about the law so I don't know why you are posting on this board.
