Is this the most assinine and pointless thread in MSE history?

What, exactly, is the point of debating who 'should' be able to buy a property. If you can afford it, you can buy it. If you can't, you can't.

    Debate over.

What 'should' be happening is a legitimate point for debate.

    Debate on. :)

I'm sure when Fuel goes through the roof and you can't afford to run your car, or when gas or electricity go through the roof and you can't afford to heat/light your house, you'll soon be on here moaning.

We don't expect houses to be given away, but it'd be nice to have had a level playing field where BTLers didn't receive tax incentives to buy houses and people who were fortunate enough to buy a house before the boom were disuaded from mewing to buy their holiday homes (don't get me started on the damage they do to communities).

Is this the rudest, most pointless comment on a thread on MSE?

If you're not interested, don't read it.

I suspect the point of the thread escaped your limited intelligence.

Go back and reread my posts and then get a grown-up to explain them to you. :)

78 people have voted so far so you're clearly in a tiny minority with your opinion.

Always someone else to blame eh? How convenient.

It is a level field. Anyone can buy at anytime. It's your choice.

If you don't have the money at the right time it's not the government's fault, or a landlord's fault - it's just the way life is.

I chose to buy in 2007. I made a mistake with hindsight. But so what - I made that choice. No one else made it for me.

Can individuals offset income against housing cost. No.

BTL is taxed as a business. Many, many items may be offset against rental income. Plus BTL properties have the benefit of being flipped for CGT gains.

It is not a level playing field.
