The moral of the story is to buy at the price you are happy with and forget about checking the price once you have bought it.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

so you want to go back to the shop and ask for another £10 off it even though you was happy to pay the price -£20. How would you like it if you owned a shop and someone brought something back and asked for the difference because you have a sale on. Would you go into DFS and say that sofa is on sale now, but i havnt sat on the one i bought for full price can i have half my money back? They would just laugh at you, its cheeky for 1 and disgusting to be that scabby.0

If you paid with a mastercard type credit card, or a store card, your normally able to claim back the difference.
If you paid with cash, its normally the going thing that you saw it at a price you deiced was acceptable. You paid for it to confirm this and now own it. If it gets reduced after then, this is regardless of anything as you already decided its previous price was cheap enough.
...why does being a Mastercard or store card make a difference to cash?
Are you talking about a legality or generic store policy? If the former, there is definitely no such law. If the latter, why would they be nicer to people who paid with a card? 0 -
A few of the cards offer a service whereby if you find something cheaper within X days THEY refund the difference, you don't have to mess about going back to the shop. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

My girlfriend has now told me about this, sounds like this could only apply to store cards, not if you paid with just any Mastercard as jenniewb alluded to.0

I called into Debenhams and told them what I wanted to do. The assistant told me that they weren’t supposed to do it but he would anyway. He gave me a full refund, took me to another till and let me buy it for the new price (the full price of the coat was £60, I paid £40 last week and now it’s £30).
Yes I am cheeky; yes I was happy to pay the original price for the coat and would have kept it if he hadn’t been able to help, but I’d sooner that £10 be in my pocket than Debenhams, they will have still made a profit so everyone’s a winner.0 -
good on ya xxSIMPLES!0

You asked...and you got answers...and then you abuse a fellow MSE member. You have got your £10 yes, but have lost so much more than that.0

I think it's how you ask - if you go back to the shop and demand they refund your money and give it you for the reduced reduced price then that's rude (and remember we shouldn't be rude to other MSErs either) but I did a similar thing with Currys when I bought a little flat screen telly and they reduced it by £30 the next day. I gave them a ring and asked the assistant which would be best - should I cancel my original order and order the telly again at the reduced price or could they do the new price for me. They very kindly refunded me £30 and as the girl on the phone said - if you don't ask you don't get.
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!0 -

I suppose you will be disgusted with that Oakey? Well good, I hope you are, I asked for an answer to my question, I certainly didn’t invite the inane, moralistic and childish opinions of a fool, now will you please p1ss off my thread. Thank you to everyone else who tried to help. I’m sure Martin would approve, ask one simple question and receive a tenner, money saving at its best, no one can argue with that and if you do, I'm not really interested :rotfl::rotfl:
Yes you did ask the question and nobody was able to answer it fully, i.e nobody had actually done that at debenhams before. However lots of people came on with their opinions (the joys of posting on here!)
And thats all Oakey was doing, posting their take on the matter. Now because the opinion was different than what you wanted to hear does that make it childish? Inane? Or make Oakey a fool? No, just offers another side of the arguement to consider!
Did that warrant you telling some to p off "your thread"? I don't really think so!
Personally I would have tried to get the extra money off, after all don't ask you don't get, so well done for getting the extra discount (good money saving at work)!
But its worth remembering MSE is a friendly site to ask questions such as this and not really a place to flame people who have differing opinions to yourself!0
