Squeez the juice of a lemon into a small amount of hot water. Drink it and take 2 paracetamol and go to bed.
    Works for me every time.
I repeat the lemon/water every couple of hours and the drugs twice daily when I feel a cold coming on.

I've had the 'flu this week too. Beechams Flu Max worked for me but the Lemsip one doesn't.

Failing that - hot chocolate with brandy is pretty good - but don't take it at the same time as the Beechams! ;D
  • I always use night nurse, 20ml before bed, tastes like mouth wash but is great.

Find a good health food shop and buy some Throat Comfort Tea Bags. Failing that Liquorice Tea Bags. Hold your nose if you have to, but drink as hot as you can. Sweeten with honey if you like.

I personally like the taste, and they really really do hit the spot for coughs and sore throats.

Although if it doesn't clear, and you feel worse than you'd expect for a cold, you may have a chest infection - see your GP or phone NHS Direct for advice.

PS There is Marriage, Relationships, Health, Babies and Families - I've had good advice over there!

2 brilliant tips so far - the Beechams / Lemsip things & the hot toddy - the other thing you need is a spicey curry - the hotter the better. Get a good book to take to the bathroom with you in the morning but that, with plenty of fluids will sort you out. Works for me.
I know it sounds like a joke but give it a try.

Thanks for all the great replies. We will beat the cold yet! The whiskey idea works well at bed time, tried that last night. Bought some vit c at Tesco 90p for 20 fizzy tablets, don't know if it done anything yet? Lost my voice completely now, some would say that's a good thing? Works outing tonight, working our way around Truro from drinking hole to drinking hole. I feel dreadfull but by the end of the evening will I feel anything?

But also N9eav, will you care? ;D

Had my first cold this week, in years. Did the old 1000mg Vit C every 3 hours - just about gone by next day. Now just have to get rid of the rather fetching red nose and sore lips :D

Have you got any Balsam tissues Ticklemouse? Even if you start using them well after your nose is very sore, they start to work immediately and your nose will rapidly lose it's Rudolph sheen. ;D

Don't pay top price for the Kleenex version, try a cheaper version like the Asda brand.
