1-2 bed house / 2 bed flatWell I explained it couple or single changes your requirements and affordablity so I had to vote other:)
PS Graham the vast majority of people buy their first home as a couple it's a fact you cant hide from:)
I'm not hiding, I'm asking for opinions.
I was just stating that the poll had no intended slant on someone buying singally or a couple taking out a mortgage together.0 -

Good, thats why i had to vote other.
if i was single I think my requirements and afford-ability would be less:)
PS my stater home was a 3 bed house, but I was not average FTB.0 -
Other - Explained.* It depends how many kids you have.
I'd say a 3 bed council house is fine for the average 16 year old single monther with 5 kids of different racial backgrounds.0 -

Doesn't really matter. I'm looking for your opinion of what a starter home is.
Unless you REALLY need to seperate the types of home between someone taking mortgage on their own and someone taking a mortgage as a couple.
On a personal level, my idea of a starter home does not change between those 2 sets of people. As both are presumably looking to "start".0 -
1-2 bed house / 2 bed flatA starter home is what you can afford to buy in the area you decide to live in.
My first was a 2nd floor 2 bed flat. Though the 2nd bedroom was little more than a box room.0 -

Some people don't want relationships and family's graham, or they can't afford a 2 bed house.
Do we bin them:) or accept that being a FTB is very circumstantial.
I am not having a go at you but you are looking for a one size fits all solution which is just not there.0 -
to me, a starter home, is a property that is small, but has its own garden. So by the time children arrive, you will have to think about moving on, as you just dont have the space
i wouldnt say a flat of any size, would fall into the starter home category, as i think of 'homes' being a house rather than a flat

1 bed flat / Bedsit i.e. small flat.By that definition pretty much everything is a ponzi scheme!
If I start buying better branded clothes is that a ponzi scheme?
If I upgrade my car is that a ponzi scheme?
Not at all. A ponzi scheme is something that requires new entrants to the bottom of the scheme to feed into higher prices farther up the scheme. I'd like to see how cars/ branded clothes fit that profile.0 -
