Buyer leaving neg

I am not sure if I have handled this right, but I sold a top which was new still in its packaging. When the buyer opened it there was a smell to it. They emailed me saying it smelt. I offered a refund and they said they would wash it and see. The smell didn't come out so I offered them a refund. They said they weren't going to the post office to post it back. I said don't worry I will send a refund anyway. They said don't bother and the item was already in the bin. I sent another email saying fair enough, I will post them a refund. They said 'really don't bother I will accept I was ripped off'. Now they have left neg fedback. I have commented on my feeback saying I offered a refund and left feedback for them saying ' i offered a refund but didn't accept'.

I feel a bit annoyed by it and there was nothing more I could have done.

You've done everything you could have IMHO.

I guess you'll just have to put it down to a rouge buyer.

sounds like they were determined to neg you no matter what , take it up with Ebay and provide all the Emails from and to - not upset anyone recently have you ? , could be someone using a different account name to neg you !?

Why did you leave feedback for them - all you've done is increase the score of an idiot?

Otherwise though - you did all you could, you just have to accept that dealing with the un-satisfiable is an occupational hazard of selling on eBay. If it is your first neg, wear it as a badge of pride - a battle scar from which you lived to tell the tale.
<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->
  • You did everything possible to rectify the problem - it seems like just another idiot .
Are they new to ebay ?

Doubt it. Ebay wont remove the neg unless there is a blatent breech of rules. Just respond to it in a measured way put it down to experience and put the buyer on your blocked bidders list.

Didn`t say they would remove it but to take it up with them ( would like to know Ebays take on it when they have been offered refund AND get to keep item and still land you a neg and claimed they were ripped off ??! )- how could they claim to be ripped off if offered money back ?! and why would they refuse it anyway??? makes no sense to do so !?

I can help you there - ebay's take on it would be: 'Tough t*tties!'
Feedback can be removed if it breaks the rules, but not when the person leaving it is just being unreasonable.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

She's probably wearing the top right now.

Why would anyone choose to refuse a refund in favour of leaving a neg unless they were anything but an idiot?

Unfortunately there is no way for ebay to identify idiots in the registration process so it is inevitable that you will encounter the odd one from time to time.

Just move on, one neg won't kill your account.

Unfortunately now that Ebay has removed the right of sellers to leave negative feedback, the whole thing has turned into a circus. As a seller you are forced to appease buyers, which is a type of blackmail.
