dont bother hsbs are awful bank dont listen to your problems and charge you stupid amounts!

I found HSBC to be a very good bank, plus when i walked into one of their branches and straight away they helped with my query - i even got to sit and in the premier section! lol, and when i asked about mortgages an advisor sat with me and did a check on how much i could borrow - even though i made it clear that it was for information purposes - however i could see why they did it.

Banks dont set out to charge you - ie - they offer you an OD - customer refuses OD - customer goes OD and then wonders why they get charged!!

I do agree that charges are high - but if you run your a/c properly you will never get any charges incurred!

I had a HSBC account and never got stung with any charges and never went overdrawn, but their service is still awful.

You state you don't want telesales - they still call you offering you an upgrade to their premier accounts for £xx a month. You sign up for paperless billing, yet they still write to you every few months to pass on information which could be sent by email or their internal messaging service. And their fraud detection system is overly sensitive and it flags up anything remotely unusual. Plus in my experience their staff in branches are unhelpful, rude and their call centre staff aren't much better. In general I didn't like their service.

And if you try to close your account, they call incessantly asking you why you're closing!

I have no issues with the Co-op and applaud them for their ethical stance (Even if they aren't quite as ethical as they like to make out).
