I can't belive you give your students USB stick what a waist of money (not really lost it more like they want to exchange for cash & sell the stick on ebay). Try his site for your students http://www.mamut.com Companies will be given up to 500 MB backup storage, whilst private individuals will receive 250 MB, absolutely free. Existing users of Mamut Business Software will receive 1GB, whilst users of Mamut Home Software will receive 500 MB, absolutely free.

He never said the student lost the stick he said she lost her coursework on it;)

Well whilst i haven't experienced what S_Joynson mentioned, I did have failure i mind when writing this which i posted in the other USB thread.

I agree that speed is a prime factor to consider with respect to purchase, however these devices should also last a long time and therefor the place of purchase is important as is getting copies of any web pages (not stored on it!) dabs for instance mention data retention for >10 years and as such the product to be fit for purpose must last that long.

I possess some ancient ones (in techno years) and they cost as much as the prices discussed here but are small 32 & 64mb's

I am looking to buy a new 1 or 2 GB one, but I certainly require a keyring type have used the ones I have, for me this is essential

As to use, well i do have a specific reason, however people should be aware that you can use them for more than just shuttling data, more and more software is becoming available to use straight from the stick, WP email browsers etc and some support the concept of a movable 'desktop', meaning you go somewheres and can plug in your stick you have the same desktop and programs as at home, indeed one stick could easily contain the whole families settings, a step further and you can boot your own OS off of them. Additionally some can be configured to act as security logon keys for your own box.

So bigger can be better and add flexibility to your IT life.

  • The flash disk I received from eclipse was not quite what I expected. The image shown seemed to be of a Generic make, but the one received was by Easy Disk. My system runs on Win98Se and the back of the pack indicated (in French) that no driver would be necessary if not under Win 98. So of course I tried it and guess what?

Anyone know of where I can find a free dowload driver that works for the EasyDisk 1Gig device?

Incidentally the packaging had exactly the same serial number as appeared on the Generic description ie ME-FD1024

    Thanks,
