open IE. Goto tools. Have you switched on 'working offline'?

Whos your internet service provider and do you use a router?

    What firewall do you have?

open internet explorer and goto TOOLS. If you are working offline it will be ticked

If it isnt id suggest as follows (Basic check before going on)

shut down the computer AND the router. Power up the router and wait until it stops flashing. Then power up the computer (With the usb adaptor ALREADY in)

If that doesnt work is suggest using an ethernet lead for a direct connection to the router to determine if its ONLY wireless thats causing a problem

philng. I heard you the first time. Im trying to determine if its the connection from the wireless to the adaptor. And wether or not the ethernet works (If it does then its the wireless adaptor at fault, if not then we need to look further)

    try resetting internet explorer ~

    1. Open Internet Explorer .
    2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
    3. Click the Advanced tab.
    4. Under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click Reset.

I dont suppose you have any other browsers on your computer? (firefox, chrome etc)

Have you got a security suite like McAfee or Norton running sometimes they get switched to lock down mode and nothing works properly try temporarily disabling your firewall just to check
