Sorry I forgot to say Strider 590 - I am using XP Home.
Also the Microsoft Viewers installed with no probs as did the latest Open Office.
I am getting REALLY irritated about all of this so now I HAVE to solve it before it drives me nuts.0 -
DEP = Data Execution Prevention
System properties > Advanced > Performace > Data Execution Prevention
Ensure its set to windows programs and services only.
What version of Office 2007 is it? I've heard of some issues with Pro or Business on XP home edition.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

He was already in the registry, I didn't tell him to go in there - perhaps you should consider READING up on the thread before you start throwing your dummy out of your pram and unnecessarily swearing like some idiot teenage yob!
Those 'how to meet greet and make friends lessons, haven't quite had the effect we thought they would have did they'.what your doing is a damn silly thing to be doing.
Once again, I didn't tell him to dive into the registry, he was as I already stated: Already IN there. So you may like to consider that before you go throwing accusations around. CCleander should therefore clean up the registry and make good anthing changed incorrectly. How many people kill their PC's doing this based on suggestions on these forums? We'll never know, because they don't have a PC anymore! just an expensive foot rest thanks to some bad advice!
Err what no sugestion as to what DEP actually stands for, no assistance or instructions on how to turn it off Strider? I thought you bought your particular brand of masculinity into this thread to assist.OP are you using Windows Vista or XP? and what version? please
If it's XP you may need to turn off DEP
If it's Vista you may need a full admin account and turn off DEP
In XP:

In Vista:

Hmm, similar to what I suggested earlier in the thread, though I said he should right click everything in the system tray apart from the firewall and the antivirus. But you go right ahead, afterall we don't know if the source disk of office is legit or not so may have unexpected surprises, but you go right ahead and tell him to turn off his last vestige of protection.Turn off your antivirus and firewall temporarily to ensure no interference from those, Norton and AVG are sods for holding up installations and MS installations are ever increasingly trying to access the internet to establish whether they are genuine or not.
Any other programs running shouldn't matter unless they are also some form of security.
We've also covered whether he's got admin privileges too, which it seems he has or at least he's not said he hasn't so conclude from that what you wish.
Oh yes and let me explain your 'acronym' DEP to the OP: http://www.zensoftware.co.uk/kb/article.aspx?id=10002
There you go.It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

I checked the DEP and it is already set as you described.
It's a student and teacher version of Office 2007 - from software4students.co.uk - has a key which is correct - it ticks it as correct in the first page of installation.
What else do you suggest??0
