.....matters not if the transaction takes me £1.surely that totally unfair.

The retailer chooses not to claim the funds, not the bank refuses to.

they told me i would have received the notice in my last statement which i didnt but that wasnt the issue, my problem is how can i buy something online and the transaction is successful but then takes sometimes over a week to come off my account and if during that week i withdraw cash from an atm my account will be overdrawn when the online transaction is pulled from my account. surely in this day and age when u make a switch payment online or not it should show on the account immediatley! the delay in the transaction being pulled from my account has resulted in several charges and the bank calling it fraud. id call it lunacy!

When I worked in a shop our card machine was set up to only dial and authorise every 50th transaction, so on actually taking the card we didn't know if they had the funds to pay. Most transactions will not show on your account until 2 days after, but they will often be dated the day you did them.

im still of the opinion that they could and should debit the account immediatle and they chose not to.

Its not the bank its the retailers it depends how they process the transactions. If the retailers dont claim the funds the funds will show back on your account on day 3 if they dont process the transaction fully.

I stayed at the hilton back in october used my card to pay for my stay. The amount was pending for 3 days ended up showing back on my avaliable funds then they finally processed the transaction fully again 2 and half weeks later very annoying.
