new bank charges!!!

the rbs has just charged me £225 this week. they told me there were 6 seperate charges and some of them were due 2 me using my switch card when there were insufficient funds and this was a form of fraud, but i only switch online and the payments are always processed fine. surely if the payment is processed its not my fault the the paynent is taking a few days 2 come off my account?? is this going to be the new profit making system?

No they are now pre notifying you of charges 21 days in advance of them going out rather than debiting them straight away. Have you started to claim your bank charges back?

they told me i would have received the notice in my last statement which i didnt but that wasnt the issue, my problem is how can i buy something online and the transaction is successful but then takes sometimes over a week to come off my account and if during that week i withdraw cash from an atm my account will be overdrawn when the online transaction is pulled from my account. surely in this day and age when u make a switch payment online or not it should show on the account immediatley! the delay in the transaction being pulled from my account has resulted in several charges and the bank calling it fraud. id call it lunacy!

What is the status of the claim today?
The argument that is should come out straight away is countered by the argument of whether you know more of less how much is in your account all the time?
Unfortunately they won't budge on it.

yeah i do agree that u should know more or less whats in the account but its a joint account my wife and i dont consult every time we withdraw £10 or £20 and matters not if the transaction takes me £1.surely that totally unfair.

also the bank told me that sometimes switch payments can take months to come off the account. so the argument surely is flawed. isnt it?

up to 6 months, which seems crazy but is unusual to take that long.

im sure its exremely rare for it to take this long but it must in some circumstances for the banks to say this. but like i said when the transaction is made surely in this day and age it should be taken from the account immediatley as we cant be expected to keep a tab on several different amounts for several different switch payments for a number of days or even weeks.

Unfortunately I would still say yes you should and yes you can with regards to keeping tabs on this especially if money is tight as every single penny can be the difference between a paid item and no charges and a paid item and charges impacting on your ability to pay bills the following month.

im still of the opinion that they could and should debit the account immediatle and they chose not to.
