Please Help Lloyds TSB have given me only 2 days to pay

I got a letter from Lloyds TSB this morning telling me I have two days to pay them £62.99 this is the first I've heard of being over my overdraft, I've got a student account and I've not even been recieving statements, even though I've asked them a number of times to send them. They tell me that they have been sending them, or that they will see to it but nothing ever happens. I really don't know what to do, I don't have the money and I'm not going to be getting any soon.

Any advice you could give me would be really appreciated.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but

    1) statements are not the only way to check your balance
    2) presumably if you have been contacting them to check why you arent receiving statements you could have checked your balance?

Have you spoken to them about the situation?
  • I contacted them about my statements and they didn't mention anything about being over my overdraft. i haven't been checking ym balance or even using my account because i knew i was close to my overdraft, but i though i was just inside it. i have no idea what could have sent me over either but the person i just spoke to couldn't tell me.

they've said my options are be charged £100 a month till i pay, or set up a payment plan where I find £10 a month to pay them and they give me an overdraft to cover the six months worth of £100 fees. wither way i end up paying them £600 more than i owed them. i ended up setting up the payment plan because at least it gets them off my back for a month and maybe i'll find some way of making the money

    Hi,
What thay have done is not fair or just in my view. You need to contact your local CAB. and talk to them about it. You can also look into claiming back your charges too. please go and see someone about this.
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j

what on earth does this mean? you need to start understanding whats happening on your account - sounds to me like you are burying your head in the sand.

they couldnt tell you what took you overdrawn? did you ask? what was their answer? i cant believe for a moment that this is what they said?

sorry to sound harsh but until you understand what is happening on your account this situation is not going to improve.
  • they told me they were the debt recovery call centre and they didn't deal with that. that they could only see that i was overdrawn. she didn't speak very good english and it was a very bad line too so i gave up. not the most productive idea i know. i'm planning to go into town and speak to CAB tomorrow.

how about speaking to the banking department first to find out what has put you overdrawn. it may be that it is something that should not have been debited and you can start to sort it out.

No need to launch an attack on students! Being a student, the OP probably hasn't had the experience to know how these things work.

OP - is it possible your statements are going to your home address while you're at your term time address or vice versa? Also, if you have a debit card you can get a mini statement at a cash machine, which should tell you what sent you overdrawn.

Maybe they should employ you to go into universities and tell medical students, nursing students, law students, student teachers etc that what they are doing is a waste of time and they should get themselves a REAL JOB instead of bumming around living off the taxpayer and doing nothing.

When I was a nursing student I was working EIGHTY HOURS A WEEK!!! I'm sure that at some stage of your life you will need medical care, or perhaps legal help. Perhaps you have or will have children who will need education. Perhaps you will need dental care or a prescription from a pharmacy.

Where the hell do you think that these people would get their qualifications from??? Bought them off the internet??? Or perhaps you would prefer that an unqualified surgeon operated on you, an unqualified doctor diagnosed you or treated you, an unqualified dentist took out your tooth, an unqualified lawyer defended you in court, or an unqualified person taught your children as at least then they 'wont have just found another excuse not to work!'

Yes, there are courses out there where the meaning or use isnt clear, but some courses are ESSENTIAL. I think had anyone said that to me while i was nursing I would have said a lot worse!!! I had no debt while I was a student nurse but I sacrificed my sanity to do so - we got £450 a month to live on, and I worked full-time around my course to supplement my income, but I was lucky to do that. Not all students are a waste of time!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the help, as for why i ended up so far into my overdraft, the student loans company told me one figure of how much i was going to get and then changed their minds so i had to use it to pay rent because by that point i'd already signed a years contract. hindsight is a wonderful thing but at that time i really didn't know what else to do. on the job front i do as much agency work as the uni will put my way but various mental health issues mean a full time job really isn't feasable. statements aren't going to my home address, i checked, they have my adress correct on their systems and had no problems sending me this letter. i tried internet banking once and got my account frozen when i forgot my password, i also worry about the security of online transactions on a shared internet connection like this one. i rang them up and found out that what had sent me overdrawn were some backdated charges from March, i'd gone over my overdraft for three days then payed it off (as soon as i could) but apparently they then charged me £75 in total, because the first charge of £15 sent me over my overdraft limit so they then levied charges for me being over my overdraft.

hopefully a friend is going to be able to lend me the £62.99 so i can pay them back instead of getting charged more fees by the bank.
