Chip Pan vs Electric Deep Fryer

Hi people.
I wonder if you guys could help me. In our household, when we need to deep fry something, we tend to pull out the chip pan and proceed with that method. However, recently we have considered finally getting a deep fat fryer as I feel that they are cheaper to use.
Recently we have been getting high gas bills as well as electric and I've been trying to save of this bills where I can. I didn't realise that gas was as expensive as it is and i'm not sure why our bills are as high as they are, but that's not the point of this thread.
Do you guys know if it is cheaper to use a deep electric fryer as opposed to using a chip pan with gas?
Its easy to work out how much electric power something will use but a bit difficult with gas. I am already ware of the gas cubic feet to kWh conversion factors but that doesn't give you an idea of how much gas you would use to fry a plate of chips for example because the size of the flame plays as big part as well as the length of time it runs for. Anyone have any idea (average, educated estimate) how much gas is used for that particular example.
There are alot of appliances in which electric cant beat gas for quality of end result (e.g. gas cooker vs electric etc) but im sure the gas version is costing more in the long run.
Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't like re-using oil and deep fat fryers take so much oil, it's cheaper for us to use a chip pan. Also, we don't have chips often enough to justify having a deep fat fryer there, full of oil, ready to use. I like the look of the Tefal Actifry but it's too expensive. We usually have oven cooked wedges now - potato wedges tossed in oil and sprinkled with cajun spice - instead of chips.0

Cheaper to cook with gas but probably safer and more healthier with a deep fat fryer0

Many years ago we had a chip pan. Never again they are a fire hazard. My wife almost burnt the house down because she put it on to make chips and went back into the lounge. Of course she got distracted by something on the TV. 15 minutes later she remembered and opened the kitchen door. Black smoke everywhere but no fire. It was an electric cooker with the controls on an eye level grill. The flames had burnt the control so the electric to the ring had went off and the oxygen must have been used up because the fire was out. And in these days smoke detectors weren't installed.
And we weren't insuredNEVER EVER USE A CHIP PAN
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:It's just not worth it0 -
Have to say, I don't have either, as I kinda like blood flowing through my arteries and whatnot
but if I were to get one, it would be a chip pan - just because I've never had chips tastier than my Grampy's used to be out of the chip pan - I'm yet to be convinced this is something a deep fat fryer to replicate.
Without doing the maths, I'd have thought that the Gas option would be cheaper, too.
Obviously, however, you need to use a little common sense when using either...0 -
chip pans should be banned by law, there are no positives to owning one, they stink, they look awful and are just vile. I bought a deep fat fryer that I have used 3 times in the last month for when i have a craving for real chips, but it doesn't smell, in use or afterwards, its clean and fits nicely away in the cupboard. If you must use a method of deep frying, use a deep fat fryer. I bought a Tesco value one for £12 as I have very little use, but if you fry alot, id say spend as much as you can and get a decent one, preferably an actifry by tefal, as they use less than a spoon of oil (correct me if I m wrong) but, be very careful and heed the advice all fryers have, DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED!! The Tefal actifry was on Watchdog for bursting into flames, and I saw a post on here just last week that someone had that happen to them, so on balance, may be just as dangerous as a chip pan!!
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Why do people always say chips and crisps are unhealthy? They are made from potatoes and fried in VEGETABLE oil.
I am a vegetarian, I eat grass, admittedly it has been converted into meat by a cow:j
Why can't a man give birth? He can when he is a WOman :rotfl::rotfl:

My Grampy's chips were fried in LARD....0 -
My Grampy's chips were fried in LARD....
So were mine until my wife set the chip pan on fire.
Lard never works very well in a deep fat fryer
Nothing better than potatoes straight from the garden and put in a chip pan with lard. Never had them for the past 36 years
