    **OFF TOPIC**

To bring the deposits together, mY girlfriend is going to withdraw her savings from Barclays and pay them in to my savings account with Abbey linked to my card tomorrow. If she goes in to the branch to do this with my card will there be any problem?

    Thanks
    Adam

Potentially: the paper trail for the deposit will be from your account to the solicitor. It would be better if it's clear that you have both contributed to the deposit.

I'll bear that in mind, thanks Fox.

Does anyone know if the OH can deposit into my savings account with my card?

Just a quick update to this. I have just spoken to Britannia on the phone and have discussed with them what exactly will suffice. The answer was very vague and short of proper statements from our current accounts going back years there is nothing that will definately be accepted. We have a deposit of £50,000 spread around various institutions and they want (somehow) for us to prove where it has all come from and the audit trail of where the money has been sent (ie different accounts).

This money is all of the money we have both saved through our whole lives - do they want statements going back over 20 years? This is holding everything up and if they are waiting for statements printed by each and every banking institution that our money has been through then I think we will have to go elsewhere (if the chain doesnt collapse in the meantime).

Another example of how it would be easier to buy a house with a tiny deposit, if any.

Err...... not a clue but didn't have to prove anything with Natwest?!

What do they suggest then Rob..... surely a print out from each of your 'institutions' is fine?

Well they were very vague and wouldnt confirm that anything would 'do' other than seemingly proper paper statements from all of our institutions going back to the year 0.

We have already sent print outs from all of our banks showing the amounts plus our full names etc, but this was not acceptable. It looks like the problem is proving where the money has come from, not that we have it in the first place.

Sounds like you've hit their money laundering detectors  small amounts spread accross many accounts adding up to a much larger sum....

Can you detail where any chunks have come from? Saving bonds, work bonuses and show those and show proof of those along with a we saved x amount per month from salery. No idea what they're looking for though.
  • We shouldn't be too bad for this because at least we can trace where the money has come from, we only started saving last year, but even so this is a bit of a nightmare as its another tiny part contributing to making things happen quickly.

I'm just going to ask for a statement from Abbey once all our deposit is in there and tell Britannia they'll have to wait until I receive it, there is nothing else I can do.

Well, I have spoken to the person who dealt with our application in our local branch and she is trying to help. Still nobody has confirmed exactly what I can show to prove where the money has come from. A P60 "wouldnt hurt" was the closest I have got to an answer.
