Tough call, I think you need to get the card back and cut it up. Only way to be sure.

Trouble is you have no proof, unless they gave you a cancellation code or similar.

    That sucks.

Funny they never record the conversations that would help me :(

So, out of interest, would I still be liable for lost/stolen supp. card charges if they "had no record" of my reporting _that_?

You could ask for a SAR (subject access request) under the data protection act.
They can charge max £10 for this.
I recently did this with Npower and have a transcript of calls includings all the .....umms......and .......ahs.........

They still might not have your call though.

You really should not be leaving important stuff like this to chance.
Either put it in writing and send it recorded delivery for 75p and check it's been received (then thay can't deny it)
    OR get a written acknowledgement.
You can't rely on someone on the phone saying they did something.

What about your relationship with the other card holder?
Why were they spending money without your permission?
Did you tell then to stop?
    Was their use fradulent?
Do you have any proof e.g. divorce papers.

I think you are leaving far too much to chance here.

When I reported a card lost, it was immediately cancelled (as far as I know) and I was given a call reference number.

Not to worry. I will pay the bill when it arrives as usual.

No, I was not given a reference number.

Thanks for the messages ILW, Dabooka and lisyloo.

I think that AMEX should be responsible for it, just as I would be had I not cancelled it.

Surely the person who actually used the card and spent the money should be responsible for it. Have you chased them for it ?

Not really the point. I expected Amex to render the card useless (as they promised).

Like I said, I do not have an issue paying the charges, I just don't think that Amex should say they have done something they obviously have not done.

As the main card holder I am responsible for all charges made on any supp. cards.

But this was meant to be cancelled (confirmed by Amex) and was not.
