Scaffold boards as decking

if i was skint and could get the scaffold boards for free, then i would use them. just treat em once a year.
they are very durable for the money. otherwise scaffold companies would use summat else.Get some gorm.0 -
I think perhaps awkward it the wrong word. I'm an architect you see - we like to experiment and come up with something just that bit different. I don't want something that everyother person in the country installed 10 years ago. Perhaps scaffold boards are not to everyone's but I think with a good sanding and a coat of something once a year they could look pretty cool and in our throwaway/fashion concious times if it lasts 5 years its probably doing well.
I'll let you all know how it turns out0 -

Yes I agree! 'tripping' would be more suitable.0 -
Everyone has a different opinion on what looks good. We love the look of our decking made from old scaffold boards and lots of our friends think it looks really good too. What I can say for sure is that they do the job perfectly well and at a fraction of the cost of the hardwood decking. If you are strapped for cash, I dont think you would regret this option for decking.0

I too like dragging up old posts, because when you search google this is the first thing that comes up. I have used scaff boards as decking, and can tell you that it is in no way different from any softwood decking, other than being thicker. You obviously have to rip out all the nails and bands and rent a floor sander, but at a fraction of the cost you get a sturdy, rustic look.0

We have scaffold board decking, it was cheap, about £10 per length. Does a good job and lasts well.0

Scaffold boards come in about 5 or 6 different lengths from 5ft to 13ft
I say this because I wouldn't want anyone who happens across a load of 5ft boards at £9.50 each thinking it is a good deal when it is not.Not Again0 -
I purchased scaffold boards from a local company near me who sells all sorts of scaffolding supplies company they were really cheap
I also purchased one of their scaffold tubes for a washing line.
My decking looks great and Scaffold boards are really sturdy - If you think about it they need to be if they are bing used on building sites and for workers to walk along - Saved me a lot of money as normal decking is just too expensive. I think I will be buying more this year to build a border for my new veggie patch I am really getting into growing my own veg0 -
