So, in ten years:
Faulty LG's = Nil
Faulty Miele's = 1
Faulty Bosch = 4000 (say 1.5 per week day x 10 years)
Faulty Hotpoint/Indesit = at least 26,000 (min of 10 per week day x 10 years).
Not just Which? who make laughable mistakes then?
I've had a Bosch machine or well over 12 years, still going strong.0 -
was meant to put per week sorry not day. agree with poster about the filter in hotpoint, this is a deliberate money making tactic changed about 3 years ago. another reason to avoid hotpoint.0

Perhaps part of the reason that mikeandrach repairs more Hotpoint and Bosch machines is because there are a lot more of them in use.0

Yes and there are alot more Miele than LG!
You can't always go by the statistics either. Any manufacturer that claims over a 7kg load is misleading the consumer because the test for the wash quality is done at 5kg and when you go over this the wash quality rapidly decreases, unless you have a Miele as they will only claim a wash load capacity while maintaining the best wash quality.0 -
LG machines you can almost put the kettle on for the bearings failing at 4-5 years old. Very common failure.
As is door locks.
As for load sizes, there's always a compromise and I'd suggest that you have a read of this before you go buy a super huge drummed machine.

Interesting - so as I said its a waste of time these claimed loads over 6-7kg.
Also interesting about the bearings on LG - if a manufacturer doesn't use decent bearings it must make you think where else have they compromised on the machine. Miele on the otherhand have an amazing reputation for bearings, they guarantee them for 10 years as standard on all their washing machines. The bearings are also engineered with tighter tolrances than the bearings Mercedes use on their car wheels!0 -
im an ex bosch engineere...the build qaulity use to be on par with mile but probly not now as most of there machines are made in poland and for some reason dont seem to be as good as when they was made in germany,,having said that for the money there still a good machine...i have had look at lg (only glimpsing)they look well made & the direct drive seems a top idea....but i dont care if a machine is ment to last 20yrs/10yrs...you will be lucky to get 7-8 yrs out of any machine if u live in a hard water area0

Am I the only one with a Hotpoint machine and think it is great (touch wood)?
Had it fair few years and no problems with it: it is quiet, has a 30min short cycle but not a huge drum, enough for 3 of us. Having said that, Hotpoint dishwasher is a whole different story.Having had it for over 5 years, a month worth of washing does not pass without a fault.

Hi,
40 Years ago Bosch might have come close in build quality to Miele, never since. With all due respect I don't actually think you know too much about Miele's life expectancy. Every Miele washing machine is designed for 10,000 hrs of use which works out to 2 one hour washes a day 5 days a week for 20 years, and the hard water in this country has nothing to do with it as the machines are primarily designed to be used in Germany where generally their water is harder than ours!0 -
