What a swizzle Lidl's

On Saturday I bought some clematines from Lidl's. They were in a basket marked reduced to 49p. At the till I was charged £1.69 & they came up as oranges on the receipt. I pointed out the mistake to the cashier & told him the clemantines were 49p & he did a refund. It was only when I was on the bus on the way home that I checked the refund receipt to see he'd refunded me 49p & not £1.20.

Today I called in at Lidl's with both receipts to be told by the manager that they do not do refunds on cashier errors if you have left the store. :undecided He said if they did so then anybody could come back days after & make false claims about being overcharged. I told him I had the receipts as he could see for himself & that as I lived a good 20-25 min bus journey away I was hardly going to bother traipsing all the way back there just to pull a fast one for £1.20

In the end a compromise was reached, all he could do was give me a couple more packs of the clemantines without charge he said.

I've only just started to shop at Lidl's because of this site & sad to see that it's policy on till overcharge is so different to other supermarkets. It'll teach me to pay more attention to transactions when shopping there in future, even if it is at risk of holding up the usual long queue.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

That does seem unfair. Especially bearing in mind the ridiculous checkouts at Lidl where you're supposed to catch your stuff when it's being thrown at you at a rate of one item per second...

speaking as an ex lidlt checkout person its their policy and customers are meant to be asked to put items back in the trolley and use the packing bench.

    i HATE lidls.

Lidls policy is not unusual. This is the same policy that is adopted in all shops. The onus is on the customer to check their receipt before they leave the shop and is especially important when barcode scanners are used and items can be scanned more than once in error. Tesco are notoriously bad for errors in receipts as can be seen from other threads on this website. If the error had been in your favour would you have gone back to the shop??

! item per second? You've been done - our Lidl lot have a rate exceeding 5 per second & I think they're brilliant - but I always check the receipt before I leave & have always had any discrepancies sorted OK.

This is what I've found too Lone Ranger & in Safeway they used to refund the whole amount & give you the item free by way of apology. Safeway were the only supermarket to do this in my experience & I always found their customer service excellent.

Whenever I've been overcharged in Sainsbury's I've been able to go back maybe a week later & claimed a refund.

Most supermarkets are far too busy to allow you to stand around trying to go through your receipt item by item. You get pushed about & run over with trolley's so are not really able to check the receipt properly while instore.

I dont think they are any cheaper anyway. They dont do any BOGOF's so they dont work out any cheaper than any other supermarket.

I agree - the amount of times I have been overchanged at Sainsbury's beggars belief - I ALWAYS check my till receipt when I get home and have never had a problem with refunds but its still a pain. And it hardly ever seems to happen the other way round where I end up owing them money (and yes I would always bring it to the cashiers attention on the odd occasion this happens as I do not think it is fair on the cashier for her till to be short at the end of the day and for her to get flack for it).
  • well people avoid lidl like the plague
I worked there for a while and not only do they work their staff into the ground (you have to unload a pallett of stock in ten minutes! and its heavy work tins and bottles the veg is the worst!! and at the same time you have to rotate the stock of course what you expect apart from noone else could be arsed except me! am sure i was the only person in the whole store to ever rotate and get rid of bad veg! yuk! oh and did i mention the staff turn over lol! hmm i went from checkout gal to manager in a matter of two months!) anyway basically the whole place is a shambles not only is the structure of the staff and management crap so is the quality of their goods!
they are all dumped on palletts at the warehouse and they put things like heavy bottles and cans on top of stuff like eggs and stuff i mean no common sense what so ever! the fact is they dont train their staff properly! they dont communicate properly to staff and customers! no-one wants to take the blame for anything! and when i started working at 6:30am i dont expect to still be there doing stock take until 1:20am with only 1hr lunch! hasten to say i quit but only after i hurt my back! vowing never to return! i dont miss the staff i dont miss the sweating for nothing i dont miss the rude illegal immigrants and i dont miss missing my lunch every day just to get the stock room clear! ok essay over sorry! just lidl is a sore point :) if you hadnt noticed!
