Egypt Recommendations

Hoping to go to Egypt but can't decide where is best to go

Looking at Luxor or Sharm El Sheikh at the moment

I'm wanting a relaxing holiday preferably not a family orientated place and wondered if anyone has any advice?

Hiya I went to Sahrm last year, and it was brill went in december aswell so was nice to have sun in the winter.

I can't say about the price or anything as my parents paid for it, as it was my 21st that year and i had a very big op so went to recover, dint go far though.
Went on a couple boat trips which where nice and relaxing, and the people including my dad that went snorkling said it was the best thing ever (of course if you like that sort of thing) if not like me and my did you just stay on the boat while they go off.

Never been to Luxor parents went there for a day trip when they went a couple years ago, and they said it was very hot there, yeah we know Egypt is hot, but they said it was about 10 - 20 degrees hotter there then where they stayed which was El Gourna (sorry if I spelt that wrong)

How long do you want to go for? Several TOs will combine a stay in Luxor with one at the Red Sea.
  • Luxor has no coastline and I wouldn't recommend swimming in the Nile :-) but has some of Egypts most famous structures etc. I stayed in Hurghada (which is next to El Gouna) which is on the coast and found when we went on a day trip to Luxor it was unbelievably hot, much hotter than the parts surther north like Cairo and Hurghada.

In October last year, Me and the partner actually did both places in the 2 weeks we were off. and it is quite achievable

We spent the first week in Sharm, then 4 nights in Luxor (allowing for a one our flight to Cairo and a one hour flight down to Luxor, although you may wish to seek out Egyptair direct flights - not sure if they are in operation, or a ferry from Sharm over to Hurgada, then local transport to Luxor if your adventourous streak reaches this far) We spent 4 nights in Luxor before flying upto Cairo last night.

certainly this trip is within reach if you are in a couple, perhaps not if you have family to take, but happy to share my experience if you want to PM me.

Flights cost about £350 to and from Egypt, and each internal flight was about £50 each, and had some great deals on hotels. Lewt me know if you want further info

We went to Sharm in December cooming back on 25th. We stayed at the Three Corners St George's and it was superb. The rooms were huge and spotless with great views. The staff were friendly and kind and helpful without being over bearing. The pools were clean and well maintained and the hotel itself was superb. It isnt an all singing all dancing hotel but it has what we needed. The entertainment team were fun and there is familky stuff but it was a ver mixed clientele. It wasn't rough. My husband was suddenly taken ill (nothing to do with hotel) and the customer relations guest sorted out the on site doctor for me and within 10 mins my husband was being treated in the room on a drip and was looked after really well. I was there with my 6 year old so it could have been really stressful but they made it really easy for me in every way possible. The food (all includsive) was really good too. We are veggie and managed to eat really well every day and the meat and fish looked good too. The restaurant was spotless - food was never left out for more than about 20 mins, whether it was finished or not.

I would highly recommend the place.

My girlfriend and I spent a fortnight in there sister hotel Three Corners Kiroseiz which we thought was fantastic. The Kiroseiz is a bit more central than St Georges being in Namma Bay which is the main resort. It wasn't really family orientated when we were there (Jan) but there were a couple of families which you will probably always get no matter where you go. They had a kids pool which was a fair distance from the main pool anyway so you didn't really hear the little sprogs screaming :D

Sorry completely missed this post - hence the late reply! Looking to go for a week. There's so many recommendations, and I just can't decide :)

We stayed in the Jolie Ville in Luxor, used to be movenpick but I think it's changed owners. It was great, on a wee island 20 mins outside of luxor so you can lie by the pool and relax and they do mini bus and boat service into luxor itself for site seeing.

edit- I would def say Luxor is a site seeing hol not one for sunbathing. We prob spent 2 half days at the hotel chilling and the res of the week out and about. The hotel was good as was a bit out of Luxor so had the chance to relax at it, no hustle and bustle

I don't think you can compare Luxor and resorts on the Red Sea, as boredandconfused has said Luxor is situated on the Nile so if you want sea and sand and snorkelling, it's not the right choice for you.

We really enjoyed Luxor, we stayed there for a week after a Nile Cruise.

There's fabulous sightseeing if you want ancient history and temples.
Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and of course the Valley of The Kings on the west bank of the Nile.

There are some good quality hotels in Luxor.

Relaxing? I wouldn't particularly say Luxor fitted that description.
If you just want to relax around a pool or on a beach, I'd choose somewhere else.

For real peace and quiet, try out Coral Hilton in Neweiba. AI, and not much else about - but good for trips to Petra and Israel..
