Gift for Golden Wedding?

Amazing coincidence! My parents are celebrating their 50th next month. My sister & I have got a few things between us and it's all going in a box for the day. A set of stamps and a set of coins from 1956. I also found a 1956 copy of the Ideal Home book on ebay and I know they went during that year when they were setting up home! Try typing 1956 into the search facililty on ebay (wade your way through all the football programs!). My daughter found a DVD on Amazon with news, events, music etc from that year. My son-in-law who is into family tree stuff is going to print off a section to frame. A family gathering is planned with food and a cake too.0

There are some really great suggestions here!! It was my parents "Golden" this year too, and we had a family portrait of their children and grand-children taken for them, which they really loved. Another gift idea which I bought for them at Christmas is a "Freeview" box for their TV. (Very simple to set up and use!!).0

How timely of Martin to flag this one up! PsIL celebrate their golden wedding in September and have been racking our brains, plus MIL is 75 this year. Neither of them particularly easy to buy for!
Now, how do you persuade 3 teenagers that they WILL smile for the camera! And yes, we have used a professional when they were younger, and not even he could get them all to look like human beans at the same time!

Another "rose" suggestion, which may not be what you are looking for but may be of interest to others.
My favourite gift for this and similar occasions is a patio rose. They come in appropriate colours with suitable names such as Golden Wedding/Celebration, Ruby Wedding, Silver Anniversary, Birthday Wishes, etc. As it lives in a patio pot you don't have to have a garden or be a great gardener. My local Garden Centre (Barton Grange) offers a gift-wrapping service and for a modest charge will wrap it beautifully to create a spectacular-looking (and hopefully long-lasting) gift that will draw admiring glances at the party, for less than £15.0 -
Becles wrote:My friend made her Grandparents a golden grocery hamper. She covered a big box in gold paper, and filled it with 50 grocery items all with gold in the name eg:
Terrys All Gold
Robinsons Golden Shred Marmalade
Foxes Golden Crunch Biscuits
Golden Syrup
Golden Delicious apples
Her grandparents loved it and I thought it was a great idea. I was planning on doing it for my grandparents, but sadly my Grandad passed away the year before their golden wedding anniversary
Really like this idea and have started making a hamper. I am struggling to find enough grocery items with gold in the name.
I already have:
Golden Syrup
Golden Sugar
Golden Ale
Terrys All Gold
Golden Crunch Biscuits
Gold Chocolate Biscuits
Golden Shred Marmalade
Can anyone give me more suggestions?0 -

Anyway, I wouldn't limit yourself to gold in the name. Look out for gold wrappings - lots about at Christmas although you may have to take labels off if they're too seasonal! Also think about toiletries, I'm sure there are some 'golden' shampoos and bodywashes out there!
Maybe a couple of gold mugs, gold rimmed drinking glasses ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
All suggestions so far are brilliant. Maybe you could incorporate a few of the ideas. A family picture in a gold frame and 50 - 2 Euro pieces to spend in Spain, all wrapped in gold paper?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I don't know if they will still have them, but TK Maxx had some very nice 'golden' photo frames earlier this year, and some archive quality photo albums. We got DH's parents a frame, and put a copy of one of their original wedding photos into it. I also got a 'golden' photo album with 50 pockets, single photo to a page, and put another copy of their photo into that. I told them they could either find a photo from each year of their marriage, or 50 photos from this year! :rotfl:
I couldn't find details online, but we also had a copy of that photo 'etched' into crystal. If you're anywhere near Bluewater, there was a stand there offering this.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You can get Peaches in a tin which are golden peaches the same with Pineapple in tins.
Have fun !!0 -
How about including:
-Golden Grahams breakfast cereals.
-Gold chocolate coins- plenty of those around at this time of the year0
