Gift for Golden Wedding?

I am posting it here although I am not a 'Silver Saver' yet, but I would welcome advice from those who are.
My In-laws are celebrating their golden wedding shortly and we (their 3 kids + partners and children) would like to club together to get them something. Obviously the 'golden' theme springs to mind, but that seems to suggest things mostly out of our price range.
I would guess that we have about £75 (maybe up to £100) to spend and would welcome ideas for gifts that would appeal to them. Neither are keen on 'ornaments' that have no other purpose.
Both in their 70s, relatively healthy - He is keen on cycling and fly-fishing. She is less active (arthritis), but is keen on reading and keeping up with all 7 grandsons (aged 3 - 12). They spend the first 3-4 months of each year living in their camper van in Spain. They are not particularly interested in gardening and like to live quite a 'simple' life.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Yes, what do you buy a couple who have everything they want, and probably twice over??
Some in-laws of mine recently celebrated their 50th and I bought them a wine bottle shaped crystal decanter (they enjoy a little wine with their evening meal and I told them that they must use the decanter on a daily basis) with a couple of gold rimmed crystal wine glasses.
Crystal. of course, is for the 15th anniversary but as I pointed out to them 15 will sound like 50 after a 'drinky' or two. The glassses were only intended for use on the day but the 'set' can be added to should they wish.0 -
Maybe a trip to a theatre with taxi there and back
A years supply of their favourite magazine each
A really nice dinner out for the two of them in a special restaurant
A half day pamper day for her at a Spa or even both of them? About fifty pounds each.
Photograph frames
Camera
A picture of a favourite place, maybe an original if you have local artists
Hope this helps. Love and affection are priceless, especially from the grand kids. A small gift from each of them on the day would be very much welcome with a handwritten or drawn note or card!!0 -
My friend made her Grandparents a golden grocery hamper. She covered a big box in gold paper, and filled it with 50 grocery items all with gold in the name eg:
Terrys All Gold
Robinsons Golden Shred Marmalade
Foxes Golden Crunch Biscuits
Golden Syrup
Golden Delicious apples
Her grandparents loved it and I thought it was a great idea. I was planning on doing it for my grandparents, but sadly my Grandad passed away the year before their golden wedding anniversaryHere I go again on my own....0 -
You could assemble a memento of their wedding day
get a photo or postcard of the church they were married in, https://www.francisfrith.com who frame their postcards either singly or in multiples. You could add a newspaper from the day and there are some nice decorative maps around too. The Francis Frith site does them and so do
https://www.old-maps.co.uk.
If you have a few a genealogical skills you could do a history of their house- assuming it is an old one- who lived there previously; you can get various censuses from 1901 backwards on line. Your local record office or reference library may have pictures and maps.
Rachelif i had known then what i know now0 -
Don't know if you all live close to each other, but if you do then get the whole family to a professional phototographer for a series of group photos.0

prezzy box.com do a rose that you can name, they send a gift box, rose seeds to plant, a certificate of the registered name etc etc. I am buying one for a wedding in June. They cost approx £200

It was my Dad's 90th birthday in January and we really racked our brains to find something to give him. In the end we had a star named after him - yes, I know it is supposed to be a con, but for £50 he got a presentation pack, a certificate and plan of where 'his' star is. He was absolutely thrilled and when I take him back home and it is dark, he sometimes look up and wonders where his star is.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

The hamper sounds ideal! (Great idea - I'll have to remember that one)
perhaps cut out 50 gold cardboard hearts and get everyone to write on the back something along a theme - "I love you because.." "I'll never forget when.." "thank you for.." etc. my girls did it when they were little for mothers day (bit different occasion I know but there were a few tears shed by grandmothers that day!)
If you're really stuck for ideas how about 50 shiney £1 or £2 coins and tell them they have to spend it however they fancy but to take a photo?
Or maybe even something from the oxfam gift catalogue - a chicken perhaps??!!
hope that's of some help!0 -
Not sure how much of a 'mordern' lifestyle your in-laws live, but it was my grandparents 50th Wedding anniversary a few years back and I bought them a CD player with cassette player. They only ever had cassettes before so loved the CD player. I remember my granddad saying how he was amazed that the cassette player could turn the tape over for him (auto-reverse!).0

Wow - I certainly asked the right people
What a fantastic selction of unusual ideas. I am going to print the lot out and discuss them with the rest of the family. We might be able to a combination of them.
I love the golden hamper idea as well as the cut-out golden hearts - also the family photo......................in fact they are all good ideas.
Thanks everyone!0
