I think that the limit for a single person with no children to be able to claim WTC is 13100.00 x x

I'm kind of in the same position, although I'm freelance and have lost my contract and the outlook at the moment is I'll struggle to get a new role.
That brings a few extra complications.

But, as I understand it you would lose your right to working tax credit. You need to tell them of major changes in circumstances within a month. However, you may now be able to claim Job Seekers Allowance, which could be anywhere from £50 up to £100 per week depending on your status. You might also get help with mortgage and council tax, etc.

Check out the direct.gov.uk web site for information.

My application was a single one.

If it is £13,000 then I no longer qualify although I'm sure I read on MSE somewhere than the wage limit was £16,000. If it is £16,000 then I do qualify!!!.

It's definitely not anywhere near 16,000 for a single applicant.

The limit for a single person is £13250 and a for a couple £18200.

So it is correct you are no longer entitled.

I knew I read it somewhere

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/protect/benefits-check

Under the first heading "Are you eligible" it does state, "Those without children in work earning less than £16,000."

I am without children and earn less than £16,000.

I did contact HMR&C again yesterday and the lady I spoke to did state it is very complicated!!

We have been on wtc since april after i was made redundant last year and my wife put on part time working.

In 2008/9 our income was about £26000 so understand that we do nopt qualify for last tax year
However,£24000 of that was up until October 2008 and since then income has substantially declined-likely to be £9000 in 2009/10 unless i can get a job.
hence we are now on wtc.

between Jan 2009 and April 2009, income was just £1500.

Again-total income in tax year 2008/9 was £26000 but nearly all earned before october 2008.

Are we able to claim backdated (3 months ) wtc to between Jan-march 2009 and are we likely to get anything

That limit is close to the one for couples and perhaps Martin should have put brackets after it (for single people without children, in work, earnings would have to be less than £13100)
