Freeview Ariel

If anyone could help it would be great,

I have just moved into my new flat and to my dissapointment my freeview box doesn't pick up any chanels or get anything near a signal, the analog tv signal works fine with 1,2,3, and 4 however when I try to tune the freeview box it picks up nothing.

So I have been on the freeview website and it tells me that freeview is not available at present and informs me to contact an arial specialist.

I just wondered how much this will cost to have a new ariel installed and if anyone has ever had to do this?

Is there places where it is impossible to have freeview because of location? I live in a flat and not off the beaten track at all.

If anyone can help that would be great

If it says no signal then no matter how big an Aerial you are unlikely to get a image. Aerial fitting starts around £100 and goes up. You can get an Erial for £25 if you want to do it yourself (I'd say Google TLC direct for a cheap aeriel supplier)

Look at Freesat, either the Freesat offering or the Freesat From Sky option, that may be your only choice.

Freesat costs £80 up for a box, £150 for a High Def box and £300 for a PVR. You also need a dish, another £70 fitting, or you can use a Sky dish, but if you are in a flay you may or may not be permitted one, and it may be hard to fit depending on the height, and positioning of the flat.

Freesat from Sky can be got from £75 for the pay once watch forever pack and I think that includes fitting. That gets you 3 months of Sky sercvice then you revert it to effectivly Freeview only. I know it's cheaper but Sky subsidise it as they then have there kit in your house and they hope you'll take up the Sky service after the three month trial.

Thanks alot for the help, i dont think the fitting will be an issue in the flat as my neighbours have sky dishes attached to the balconys. I have just seen this offer,

might sound daft but are you connecting it to an external aerial on the roof of your building?

If so, then Id suggest buying a signal booster off ebay (cost less than a tenner). We did that and it works a treat.

Yep
Look through this forum, there a blog of someone doing it to see how forceful sky get at the end of the Free subscription period.

Yup this could well be much cheaper than an aerial install, which if you live in a poor coverage area could be unreliable anyway - remember to cancel at the end of 4 months (unless of course you like what you see and are happy to pay the £19/month)

We had a similar issue - the rooftop aerial had a booster at the base of the aerial - required a power supply to get any sort of signal - was still poor tho where we are.
If the freeview site says no coverage then it's likely you'll struggle anyway - freesat from sky sounds like a good option for you.

I'd go for Freesat or the Sky Pay Once for now ..., then wait for analogue to be switched off and the digital signal power increased, you should then get Freeview.

Then have both satellite and Freeview after switch-over.

Before you abandon hope of Freeview, check with your neighbours to see what they can get-the postcode checkers are not and never can be 100% accurate if you are in a marginal area. My mother is (according to the postcode) unable to get Freeview, but with a properly aligned roof aerial she can get it perfectly well.
