I think black saturn you should just leave their names alone, it seems pointless to keep changing them once is bad enough, twice is a bit over the top. What happens if you split up and marry again after this one (I do wish you and your partner a long and happy relationship) will you change their names again.
I'm not having a go but this seems to be the norm now. If children were just left with their birth name and it couldn't be changed no-one would have a problem with it.

I have a pretty unusual surname which caused me to be ridiculed through my entire childhood and school days. I am getting married later this year and am considering taking my girlfriends surname which is much more "normal", hopefully to prevent any kids we may have in the future from same teasing.

Does anyone have any advice on this? Can it be done? Or could any children take their mother's name without me changing mine?

    Any thoughts?
Me too :D and was I glad to take the OH name when I got married. It was the kind of name that lent itself to all kinds of shortening/twisting/teasing and I both hated and was embarrassed by it. Although the name goes back centuries there are now only a few people in the UK with this surname - they're all related to me
It's quite common amongst the landed gentry for a man to add the name of the family he's marrying into to his if land etc is involved, to the point of having a triple barrelled name.
Hope this helps - if you want my vote........go for the easy name :T

Come on, you can't ask questions like that and not share the name.LOL.

I shouldn't think it matters which name you choose to use. I expect your wife's family will be thrilled too. As a previous poster has said, you can use any name you please; just contact all you have dealings with informing them that this is the name you wish to be used now.

Or deed poll, if you want to make a permanent legal change, in which case you will send copies to relevent institutions, and that will be your legal surname.

I changed my name by deed poll as a teen. I wasn't bothered, but having just met my dad, I wanted to reassure my stepfather that he wasn't being usurped in my affections.

Funny things names, matters not a jot to me what I'm known as, but to my husband it means the world.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
