Is there a slump in USED car sales? Difficulty selling Good Car

Options
Hello All

I am trying to sell my beloved Skoda Octavia which is in very good condition and has been looked after. The for sale price is lower than others which have much higher mileage on them. I have spoken to someone in the used car sales trade and they have said that their cars are selling so quickly they can't keep up with demand. I know that this isn't just sales talk as I know him through someone.

When I purchased my car I had to travel miles to get it and back then they were so hard to get hold of. They still seem to be a popular car but I can't understand why it hasn't sold. I have advertised on Auto Trader. Are used cars not selling now that this Government Scheme has come out? Anyone else having problems? It has only been on for just over a week but I expected it to sell quicker than that. It is priced right compaired to others it is slightly lower than they are asking. My bro seems to think that I might have priced it too low and this makes people concerned. I am selling as I am moving abroad so it is a genuine reason.

Any advice?

    drop the price

Thanks although I would like to sell it, it is already priced lower than others and I am not desperate to sell as I still have another 3 & 1/2 weeks before I go and if after 3 weeks it didn't sell then my brother can sell it for me. I was just wondering if there was a slump in used car sales and if any one else had the same problem. Its just that previously they were so hard to get hold of. My brother just thinks a week isn't long enough and I am being impatient! I actually saw one on ebay with 185K miles on two years older that sold for only £500 less so was wondering if I should try it on there but then my concern is if I auction it then it may go for less than I want??!!

Don't believe all the prices you see on EBay but look more for an average.

What is the Glass's trade in price on the car? That should be your bottom of range estimate. You can then list it on EBay with that as your starting price.

I've been looking at Octavia Estates on Autotrader for a while. They seem to hold value well.

Regardless of your price relative to the other adverts, if you are not getting any interest then the price is probably too high, or there is some glaring reason.

Sometimes a car will not sell for reasons such as an unfashionable colour. We have all seen those pink VW beetles - would you buy one?

If your contact in the trade says they are struggling to keep up with demand, why not ask if he is interested in buying it.

My brother has just bought a second hand car and was astonished at the prices dealers wanted for cars - A 6 or 7 year old 1.6 Astra Club had a sticker price of over £5,000!!
