Dilemma... Dress for a wedding?!

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice...

I am 5 months pregnant and am due to go to a wedding in just under 4 weeks and I really need to find a dress or something really nice and "dressy" to wear! I have looked in the high street shops, but there really isn't much choice and the only colour of dress I can seem to find is black which I don't really want to wear for a summer wedding...

I am on a bit of a tight budget too!

I would be grateful if you could give me come suggestions of where I can look and also advice of what might look nice for a summer wedding!

Thanks in advance!

Mad

    Hello Mad
Have you thought about looking at maxi dresses - Next have some luvly ones - but if you're on a tight budget take a look at ebay - I got a gorgeous flowing but nicely dressy maxi dress for £3 last year - apparently it made me look pregnant - even though I wasn;t - so I'm sure i'll look fab this summer now that I am!!! ;-)

I dont honestly see a problem wearing black to a wedding. You can always accesorise with coloured bag and shoes etc.
Dorothy perkins has a nice maternity range.

I would be looking in Primark for a maxi dress, Peacocks do a maternity range now (or should I say, some do)

Littlewoods have a good maternity range so probably worth a look.

I definitely second eBay. I have got tons of my maternity clothes from there for very little money. It tends to be good condition too as people only wear it for a short period of time.

Aw, I feel for you and know exactly how hard it is!

I went to chester races in May and wore a lovely dress which wasn't maternity but was stretchy so still fit (I was 20 weeks)

and this is me wearing it (well, my bump anyway)

Last week I went to a formal evening do and wore a non-maternity dress (26 weeks) and yesterday I went to a christening and wore a really nice smock style top with cropped leggings and heels.

I guess what I'm saying is - try non-maternity clothes and remember you don't have to wear a dress!

    Good luck!

I would say black is fine - coloured/white cardigan/bolero, matching bright shoes & bag & fascinator/hat - hey presto!

(Also plenty of time for eBay ;) )

Thanks for all your suggestions so far, I will have to have a good look around and might try some non maternity clothes on too!

Black dresses and a summer tan looks great I think.

I found a lovely flowing dress in TK Maxx for a wedding when I was 4 months pregnant - bought one size larger than normal (bigger boobs!) and it was gathered beneath the bustline, so hung nicely over the bump and would cover any sudden "expansion". (pic here)
